Adult supplement doses of zinc are NEVER to exceed 40mg a day. Zinc is an essential mineral but like all essential minerals, excesses are absolutely to be avoided. The ones I have are 100mg lozenges so I cut them into appropriately sized pieces. I believe the protocols for active treatment are listed at 100mg only because they are for inpatient hospital settings with constant blood draws to monitor levels.
