This makes no sense.
The U.S. consumes 300 million to 400 gallons or almost 7 million barrels of gasoline per day on average.
They are going to do a one time release of a million barrels of gasoline which would be about 14% of ONE DAY's worth of market use.
That volume will not be enough to actually reduce prices since it is an artificially created supply anomaly.
It appears they are simply raiding the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve to get votes. Any price relief that may accidentally happen as an orchestrated knee jerk reaction to their actions would be isolated to a small section of the north east U.S. **Highest blue voter densities?
So they have already depleted the SPR.
Now during a potentially very active hurricane season, they are pillaging the NEGSR which was created specifically to safeguard against East Coast gas shortages in the event of another Hurricane Sandy type occurrence.
It's all about the media and the optics.
