Just thought it would be interesting to see how many people would share some of their images through their spotting scopes.

Over the years I’ve owned most of the names. I wish I had a place to see a verity of images from both cheap and expensive glass in one spot to help me see and decide what is “good enough” for me. Hopefully you guys will post some too and over time this may become helpful to someone-

    Post yours up!

Here are a few to start: - phone photos and videos using phone Skope adapter (obviously they will all be better with the naked eye)

Vortex Razor gen 2 22-48x65. Tried holding the phone as the phon Skope doesn’t have holder for the new iPhone yet.

Old phone in phon Skope. These were around 400yds at the range during an f-class match.

Both these are from a vortex 11-33x50 razor handholding my phone, scope is pretty good for the price and weight! However I hate the non adjustable soft rubber eye cap.

So I finally had a chance this week to unbox my new Kowa 884 from Camerland NY. I'm using an iPhone SE (gen 2) in a phone skope case and the Camera+ app. For those new to digiscoping I highly recommend watching this online workshop Kowa did w/phone skope earlier this year. I've queued it up past much of the very basic intro stuff. Definitely consider a remote shutter option. I got a $5 off of Amazon that works great.

The scope is amazing but I'm still struggling to capture with the iphone what my eye sees. Even "locking" the iphones focus point and using the remote shutter I'm still getting slightly out of focus images. Photography is an old hobby of mine and not achieving perfect focus is quite annoying. I'm planning on pulling out my DSLR and trying it out once my adapter arrives. This will give me 100% absolute control over the focus of the image. Weather wise we had lots of rain this week and the only distant object I had to work with other than pine trees was the local water tower 0.86 miles away. I cropped out the vignetting.

if you guys don't mind please post the brand, model of the spotter or binos, and the distance for the images. If you used anything like a DSLR that would be key as the images will be many times better from the same spotter than an iPhone or whatever. I don't think we need t get too far in the weeds and post your actual distance for crazy far off objects like a celestial image of the Moon 420,464,000 yards away, lol

I think as we do it gives people a good idea of what they can expect.

    Thanks again you guys rock!

I'm still figuring out this digiscoping thing, but my captured image & video quality has improved greatly. Using Camera+ set to manual focus has helped eliminate the constant iPhone auto-focus tweaking. Also, turning the eye cup out farther appears to have helped too.

Serge, what spotting scope is that image through?? If I had to guess I would guess a Vectronix but not a Terrapin or Terrapin X. Maybe a PLRF-25?

Carl Zeiss Aus Jena 63/420 Asiola DDR East German Spotter
I first saw these for sale in West Germany around 1985 as some came in from behind the Iron Curtain and were for sale at the Rhein Main AB Rod and Gun Club. Finally got one from a guy in Florida last year, the first two pictures are his. And of course this guy is from the former DDR. Even came with the goatskin bag. Fantastic and heavy scope. Came with the Zeiss Ortho 16-0 eyepiece which is 26x. This one is about as clear as the Unertl Team Scope I used shooting for the Tennessee All Guard High Power Team in the 80's and 90's.
