Looking through Graff's catalogue and saw the Hornady scale and dispenser combo. I am wondering if you guys have any feedback regarding the combo. Also, is there a reason it is $100 cheaper than the RCBS set-up?
Thanks in advance.

Re: powder dispenser question

I broke down and bought the Redding BR powder measure. Throws real consistent so far. I usually don't throw anything longer than benchmark or maybe Varget.

Just get a Prometheus and be done with it.

Re: powder dispenser question

I'm having pretty good luck with my hornady setup, but its still relatively new.

that said, its been a VERY consistent product to date.

i'll give it a proper stamp of approval once i've thrown a few K of loads with it.

Yes! In side/side testing it doesn't measure up to the RCBS. Slower times to dispense a load, more over/under charges dropped, and the basic scale isn't accurate as the RCBS.

Here's how the RCBS fared against some of it's competitors.
RCBS 1500 review

On numerous forums those who have compared feel the Hornady "feels" cheaper and the extra cost of the RCBS is worth it.

FWIW, I've been using the RCBS for three + years now. Have done some tweaking of the various parameters for fast, medium, and "trickle" modes. Drops 43-46 grains of Varget so while I'm seating a bullet, measuring OAL, and putting it in the ammo box, the dispenser has dropped a load and it's there waiting for me to restart the process.

Re: powder dispenser question

I use the hornady and have 0 problems with it. If its taking 10-15 seconds to trickle then you can program it to a faster trickle speed. Mine throws imr 8208xbr WAY faster than I can seat and measure base to ogive. Buy one and use it and if you don't like it then buy a chargemaster and stop by Burger King and pick up some straws. I load 100 at a time and get one to three over charges per batch verified by the scale and an audible tone. I too was skeptical at first and would verify the charges with a balance beam and mine throws to + - .1 gr as advertised. Just my .2 cents FWIW

The main problem as I see with the Hornady is the scale. If it uses the same scale technology as they have in the "stand alone" digital scale, it's intrinsic accuracy is only +/- .2 grains. By opening up the "zero blind" point of a scale, where it rounds off excessively, that alone can contribute to the "speed of dispensing". The more accurate scales by their very nature will take longer to stabilize and tell the dispenser "that's enough".
