Powder Recommendations?

I'm new to reloading and was wondering if anyone might have powder recommendations for the following calibers. In effect, i'm just trying to put together some good range / plinking rounds. I'm not trying to set any records. .223 will be fired from a semi-auto (M4).


230 gr. FMJ .45 ACP
55 gr. FMJ .223

for .45acp, bullseye, unique, W231, blue dot, 700x, N340.

for .223, H4895, BL-C2, Varget, IMR-4064, AA2460, H322, Tac, W748.

For 223 I'd look at Ramshot Tac since it can be found still and meters well. I don't load for 45, sorry.

Hodgdon 'CLAYS is the ticket for 230 45ACP.

I've seen more W748 around than I have Varget or H4895. At this point, beggars can't really be choosers. I've used W748 with great success. It meters great through a Dillon also.

Oh, for 223. I'm still working on 45. I've got 2lbs of Bullseye that I am about to play with. Heard great things about it. I've also heard great thing about Clay's, but they didn't have any, so I bought the Bullseye.

It works good for me.

4gr bullseye 200gr H&G 68 LSWC

I use WST- Winchester Super Target for my .45acp. It is accurate and very clean. I use this for Bullseye Pistol and plates with a 200gr LSWC.
