Anyone got a magic powder recommendation for the 105 Amax in a standard 243? I'm running a 1 in 9" barrel ... getting good accuracy with 4007SSC and H414 but I'm not quite there yet.

Most shooting is done 400 to 1000 yd...

Any chance you are shooting the stock Remy? If so, I am doing the same thing. Trying to burn out the barrel before changing to a new one for my son. The best powder I found for that pill was the Vhitavourhi N550. It was definitely sub MOA. When I couldn't find N550, it was a bitch to work up the load and the speed that I was looking for. I have tried, H414, RL15, 17, 22, 25. All didn't have the same result as the N550. When I get to Retumbo, it was very close in terms of performance, although still a bit slower thant the N550, but certainly it was in the ball park. That's what I have been using. Good luck

H4350 if what I use with the 105-115s in my .243. I use BN coated bullets with the 115s.

Thanks to all... I think I'll work with 4831SC for a while. I had pretty good luck with it and 95 gr. VLDs... pushed some 107 SMK with some success too. I just don't think the 1in9 will work for the 107SMK at long range, although I did get a sub 1/2 MOA group at 100 with 42.0 4831SC...

I'll post results with the 105 Alpha Max and 4831SC in a few weeks for you guys... thanks again.

Since you use BN coated in the 115's do you see an issue when switching to non-coated bullets?
Curious about switching from BN to bare if accuracy changes or if you do anything special when changing to non coated

Ditto on Retumbo... I'm shooting it with the 105 A-Max's in a factory 700VS. Accuracy is the the 1/2 to 3/4 MOA range. Should end up somewhere in the 47-49gr range and in the mid 2900's or better.

Don't have the data in front of me, but the range for the Retumbo sounds about right if you want to push beyond 2900 fps.

48.5 grains is what Dan Newberry is recommending as an OCW recipe.

Re: Powders for 243 Winchester w/105 AMAX

OK, as is promised I've done some shooting with H4831 SC and a few 105 AMAX. The few that I could find. Results were good around 2900 fps at 400 yds plus ranges in my 1-9 Twist Douglas Airgauged barrel. I'm shooting a 22" bbl. Longer ones should easily produce over 3000 ft if needed but 2850 to 2900 seemed to be the magic number in my gun.

I give up trying to find 105 Amax bullets. My barrel is about done anyway so I'm rebarreling very soon. I'm going to concentrate on shooting 107 SMK, 105gr and 108gr Bergers.

Anyone got experience with these bullets? I'm looking for a twist rate recommendation. I'm thinking 1 in 8" because of availablity of barrels but also thinging 1 in 7.5.

Any thoughts?
