Advanced Marksmanship Practicing movers?

Re: Practicing movers?

A lot of the movers I've seen in matches are man powered, targets carried on a stick by someone in the pits. About the only way to practice is find a range with pits and bring a friend. There are 4 to 6 matches a year in Hutchinson Ks. that we shoot movers out to 600 yd. Local match that is good practice.

Re: Practicing movers?

I can't. I just make sure my trigger pull is good and my lead is good and if I miss I adjust and get the next one.

Re: Practicing movers?

I have not made it yet, but I have a field 100 yds wide, enough steel cable to stretch across, a large snatch block to ride on the cable and hang target from, and a thousand feet or so of rope and a 4 wheeler to pull the target.

Right out of the USAMU LE Counter Sniper Guide:

Varying angle, distance and movement = "The hunting of varments such as woodchucks and crows provide outstanding training"

Re: Practicing movers?

i have a tire rim that is held back by another target. first shot realeases rim down the hill, then you get a shot at the mover. cheap and easy. just have to reset every time.....

Re: Practicing movers?

Step 1 - Get yourself a nice, durable shooting mat.

Step 2 - Have two handles sewn down one side of it.

Step 3 - Find someone who enjoys crossfit type workouts.

Step 4 - Bring that person to the range with you. Have them grab the handles and when you're about ready to shoot, have them begin dragging you sideways.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I've got a bunch of Firemen buddies that would volunteer for that "workout." What's gonna be funny is when they flinch when I touch off a round.

Re: Practicing movers?

Back home we used to shoot from our yard (on a hill) down into a depression with high ground behind it again.

We used to blow balloons up and have someone down range toss em up in the air. Great moving target (considering there was wind). Plus, you had to be quick, cuz as soon as they landed, theyd pop.

I was just thinking of this last weekend as my running shot on coyotes has absolutely gone to shit.

I need to find a place to do this excercise again.

I've heard of some stupid shit before but I think that one has taken top of the list.
Either Your friends were drunk or they really trusted you and the wind a LOT.

Now if you were using bb guns then I'd understand, we did stupid shit like that with our pellet rifles as kids.

Works for left/right & forward/backward movers at 5 & 10mph + snaps.
