Tri-County Gun club in Sherwood, Oregon will have a precision rifle match on Saturday the 13th. It will be put on by the practical rifle group there and is sort of a cross between sniper and precision rifle exercises. The courses of fire will be announced at the match, one stage is a surprise stage.

Will require between 24 and 40 rounds of ammo.

Re: Precision Rifle match

They hold a Practical Rifle match the 2nd Saturday of every month (Range 10 feet to 350 yards). February is the sniper match. In August the regular match is the Classic Battlerifle match with an additional sniper match added on another day, sometimes the day after or later in the month.

Here are a few snapshots from yesterday:

Re: Precision Rifle match

Thanks for sharing the pictures! Looks like you guys had a great time.

Did you guys happen to keep any notes on number of entries, caliber's used, and type of weapon? Would be interesting to see what everyone was shooting.

Re: Precision Rifle match

47 Shooters, most shot 308's, but did have some 243's, 22-250, 6.5X284, 30-06,and 6.5 grendals. There were alot more semi's than I thought would be there, but the course of fire would have made a semi handy.

Shot 5 stages ranges form 112 yrd tennis balls out to 500 yrd 8" steel.

It was a good course of fire, and the suprise stage added a little stress to keep it intresting.

Forgot to mention, the hides very own Jason K (moderator) took frist place. Good shooting!

Yes, some info is available. There were 48 competitors, 17 of which used semi-autos. 1 female attended. There weren't any juniors at this match. As Willys46 stated, 308 was most common by a large margin (the match was restricted to 30-06 or smaller), but did include a few others: 22-250, 223, 243, 260, 6.5 x 284, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 ... (this may not have been an all inclusive list)... I'm not sure that anyone shot 30-06...

I too would like to congratulate Jason on his 1st place finish.

Thanks to all who attended for their patience - it was a long day with a lot of waiting. The match wasn't without issues, and most competitors either shrugged them off, or didn't notice them. For those who have noticed the problems and have complaints (I'd have some complaints too If I'd been competing!), you have my apologies (but unfortunately that won't get you very far).

I hope to see you all (and some new faces too) next time; don't forget that we also do a monthly "practical rifle" match (geared towards 5.56 semi-autos and similar). Contact me for more information as necessary.

Best,

ac

Re: Precision Rifle match

Thanks for the info, I find it very interesting to see the current trends.

Many years ago American Handgunner would list weapon type, caliber, bullet type, even the brand of reloader they used for big matches.

Thanks again for the data.
