precision rifles... show em

Re: precision rifles... show em

Guys, there are some DAMN nice looking sticks in this post! Here are a few of mine:

1st - HD Rifles built LRP-1, 308, NightForce 3.5x-15x-50mm (NP-R2), all the goodies added

2nd - LTR, stock except bedded PSS stock and Shilen trigger, Leupold 4.2x-14x-20mm Tactical, Krylon camo job

3rd - AR-10 - GAP built, .260, NightForce 5.5x-22x-56mm (NP-R2), all the goodies added

4th - AR-15 - Compass Lake Engineering built, Leupold 8.5x-25x-50mm, knobs and reticle changed out by Premier Reticle

All of them shoot good or they wouldn't be in the picture!

Re: precision rifles... show em

As I said before VERY NICE rifles in this post. My comment earlier wasnt directed at eveyone, it was directed at the ones with "high speed" cammo patterns intended to blend in the background that is in the picture and did not work out so well. If that was your intention then reply on a concealment post not a post to show your weapon. Truth is unless you stay in the exact spot you painted it for it isnt worth much more than "looking good" at the range. Natural vegetation and a vail is priceless. REDNECKBMXER24, yes I am a sniper currently serving but am by far as good as many here... oh and nice statement!

Re: precision rifles... show em

ok, then i would say you probably knwo your stuff, so disregard my statement... alot of people get some of these camo patterns simply becuase they look kool, and i dont see any problem with that.

I know there is probably not many Tikka fans out there but here's mine anyway...I got it the day after Thanksgiving..It shoots nice.. Super Sniper 10x42M with ARD, and A.R.M.S. rings.. My first bolt gun. I machined the muzzlebreak myself.. It actually worked

Re: precision rifles... show em

OK, Here is the rifle of the poor. Make no mistake though...a TIS is in my future. This is my 300 WM Sendero. I have it's twin brother in the VS .308. I'm going to paint when I can get the nerve up. They both shoot sub MOA though.

Here are two reasons I don't have a GAP yet. Just got them...can't wait to race them next year.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Well here are a few of mine:

Varmint Series

Savage in 22-250. Started out as a old model 110 FP in .308, but I changed out the barrel to a A&B 22-250, SSS recoil lug, and bedded in a B&C stock. Scope is a Nikon 4-12x40AO in Weaver bases and Burris signature Z rings. This gun will keep .4 all day long.

savage222505ai.jpg

Savage 12BVSS in .223. I pulled the barrel, and reset the headspace. Added a SSS recoil lug, and bedded it in the stock. Scope is a Nikon 4-12x40AO in Weaver bases and Burris signature Z rings. .5MOA is the standard for this rifle. I rarely get any groups that are any better, or worse. It is extremely consistent.

bvss6ai.jpg

Savage 12VLP in .204. I pulled the barrel, reset headspace, and trued the crown. Added a SSS recoil lug, but haven't bedded it yet. Scope is a Nikon 4-12x40AO in Weaver bases and Burris Signature Z rings. With 27.5 grains of Varget, a 40 VMAX, and Fed GM primers, this gun will shoot .1 to .4 all day long. It is the best shooter in my collection.

2040ku.jpg

Savage 12VLPS in .223. I built this one from scratch. I started with a single shot Savage action, added a Lothar Walther barrel in 1/9 twist, SSS recoil lug, and bedded the action into a VLP stock purchased from SSS. In the picture, the scope is a Nikon 5.5-16x42AO, but it currently has a Leupold VX-II in 4-12x40AO. Weaver bases, and Burris signature Z rings.

savageproject11tn.jpg

Not pictured: Tikka T3 Varmint in .223. Getting rebarreled.

Tactical Series

First up is a standard Remington 700PSE in .308. It is completely stock, except for the Eagle Stock pack. Scope is a Nikon 4-16x50 tactical. Bases is a Badger 20MOA, and rings are Nightforce. Average groups for this gun run around .4. I've gotten groups as good as .13.

700p6if.jpg

Next is my latest build. Savage 10 action, SSS recoil lug, Savage barrel in .308, and reset to minimal headspace, SSS tactical bolt, and B&C Tactical stock. Scope is another Nikon Tactical 4-16x50. Warne 20MOA 1 piece base, and Badger rings. Haven't shot it yet.

fp6ss.jpg

Finally, is my GA Precision ROCK. Remington 700 action, Badger tactical bolt knob, Mike Rock 5R barrel in .308, McMillan M40A1 stock, Badger 20 MOA base, and TPS rings. The Scope is a Leupold Mark 4 LR 4-14x50. Only put 85 rounds downrange in this gun. Without even doing load development, I'm averaging .6.

Re: precision rifles... show em

BrianAZ, those are some fine looking Savage rifles. Thank you.

I wish someone would post a close up pic of a Savage 10/12 with tac rings and base and SS10x42 scope. I have seen a few with scopes but most have 50mm and larger obj, or 40mm and the scope sits high above the bbl. I am building a Savage SA have the SS10x42 will order the B&C tac stock. Should be a nice set up.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Big Bo,

For your setup, I'd recommend a Warne 1 piece 20 MOA base, and Badger/IOR/Nightforce low rings. That is about as low as possible. TPS low rings are just a bit taller than Badger low rings. On my GAP ROCK, the scope bell would just kiss the barrel with Badger rings, so I substituted the TPS rings and gained about 3/16" clearance.

Re: precision rifles... show em

madjack,

Mine is about 6 years old with somewhere around 3000-3500 of .308 and .30-06. It's an older one (made by TASCO, not SWFA) but has never let me down. It has passed the box test and the drop test (don't ask  ). On my sniper rifle, it was replaced with a Leupold Mk4 3.5-10x40 M3 LR about 2 1/2 years ago because I wanted a variable with the Generation 2 ret. It served on atop an M70 in .30-06 for about a year until I had to sell that rifle for bill money. It faired well with M80 and M2 ball, and if needed I'd slap her back on the Savage.

I keep thinking about selling it, but it has done me good and I don't really want to part with it. Probably never will.

Re: precision rifles... show em

The original stock was the laminated wood one. I bought a fiberglass stock with bedding blocks (stealth take off) from another hide member and it was a drop in replacement. That particualr gun is a 7WSM that will be going off to one of the smiths from here on the Hide soon. Going to make it the long range weapon.

Thanks Cory. I have a few more pics, some of them might even be better. I even have some range porn with them (hawt chick posing with rifle). I use to get rid of a gun if I did not shoot it very much. I think now I am going to start rebuilding my collection.

My babies:

My son with a Rem 700 ADL that I converted to BDL and threw a HSP stock on. Scope, mounts and rings were out of a box of spare parts in my closet. Pretty good shooter for about 3 rds, then gets hot and strings vertically.

My AR "precision" rifle. IOR M2 4x24 w/cqb reticle. About a 3/4 moa rifle - not bad for me putting it together.

Gunhaver,

The rings are Badger Ordnance Max-50, standard height (306-11) and the base is a standard height 20 MOA. I plan on replaceing it in a month (+/-) with a Badger Ordnance unit. No real reason why, just always wanted one.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Hey AJ, you should try some do-it-yourself work sometime.

Wow, that's really great that you did all of that yourself. If I could do all that, I might have a few more guns and fewer gunsmith bills.
