precision rifles... show em

It has been shown before, but never with a decent target. Well today I was at one of the 300 meter ranges that is within a reasonable driving distance, and this is what I managed.
The black box target is 80x80mm square, conditions where very windy and cold at -7 celsius and wind up to 10 meter / sek. If I have done my maths right the grouping equals 0,84 MOA. Not bad if I may say so myself.

The target:

(sorry for the calculator image, I ran out of daylight)

Ammo was handloads with Nosler 50grain Ballistic tip in Norma brass.

In that weather, that's an amazing grouping! Especially wth what I'm assuming to be a .223 Rem? If so good job my friend!

Sorry! The caliber is 22-250 rem, I forgot to mention that. You were pretty close though.

Ah cheating the wind a bit more with that cartridge..;) I've always been a huge fan of all the. .22 caliber cartridges. I don't feel like many people give them enough credit as to all the purposes they serve. But anyway that's an amazing grouping in that type of weather with any cartridge!

That is true but the small 50 grain bullets are quite sensitive to the wind. But I am very happy with the result, I did not expect to shoot that well today, given the conditions.

MY REM .308 AAC-SD. She's a shooter when I do my part. The target is of a 3 shot group that I blew. The first two shots measured .344 - .308=.036 out of a factory AAC-SD, what else can I ask for!!!!!! Now for the short story, took two shots at 100 yards, saw first hit. Next took second shot but could not see it. I stopped shooting called range cold and I went down and looked at target and was amazed there was two shots together. I was stoked and pumped, so range went hot again and I took the third shot and pull it. Well this is that target!!!!!!

Curious as to what load you are shooting?

Here's my first .308. Savage 10 FCP, HS Precision stock and a few groupings. Go easy on me, still a beginner and this was the third time I went out to the range, the groupings are starting to come closer, were a lot worse before. Currently just using a mates scope, bushnell 3200 2-7 x 44 I think. Have ordered a Bushnell elite Tactical 6-24x50 which will go on this once it arrives.

Looking either into an Atlas bipod or a Harris. Not sure just yet. Going to be picking up a reloading set up in the next month, can't wait to work up some loads for it. In the mean time I have some Hornady ammo and some Black Hills ammo for it.

Just got my AI AX 6.5 Creedmoor, 24" barrel, S&B 5-25x P4F

I am missing something here. I am impressed by this group, it is tight and on target, however I see many examples of targets that are a tight group 4" off target. I don't understand the concept. To me that means that the equipment is sound but the shooter can't put the rounds on target. What am I missing here? BTW I am not claiming to be a good shot. Most of my groups are not tight, but I do strive to put rounds on target. To me shooting a tight group off target makes no sense. Could someone please explain.

DeadSilence, when some people shoot groups, they make sure their point of aim differs from their point of impact. The theory is that if you're aiming at a hole, you won't be able to replicate that exact same point of impact again, giving you a larger group. And that doesn't impress people on the interwebz.

You are correct, and I agree, somewhat. Personally, I am more impressed when I see the group in the center of the target.

After I shoot a good group, wherever it is on the target, I move it to the center and try to replicate it. And it works most of the time. If the group cannot be replicated by turning the dials on the scope, then either the scope or the load isnt good.

I have shot groups like this. While my intent is to bring the POI to the center, I will finish the group. I only reload so much so when I hit the range, I don't take boat loads of ammo. I want to see groups.

Agreed. There is also the fact that some variations of reloads don't shoot exactly where your current load is sighted in...hence the term "load development"

More specifically, a Remington "5R Milspec" .308 with a SS 10x24HD, Badger rail and rings, CDi bottom metal, home bolt knob install, old style Rem stock trigger, Harris bipod, and cerakote on the receiver and barrel.

^^^^^^^ Dude.....that is a nice piece. I like it. I bet it shoots good too.

Edit: I like that bottom metal. Who makes it, and how many rounds does that mag hold?
Edit #2: I see you are in NJ. We should meet up at Cherry Ridge, and burn some powder.
