New member here, this is just my second post. I've looked at, and drooled over every rifle in this thread at least twice. It also served as inspiration, and in some cases a shopping list for my rifle.

I just got back from my smith here in Rapid City, my re-worked Remington 700.

It took me 7 months to get to this point, mostly spent waiting on the stock from McMillan.

She started life as a Remington 700LH BDL in .308 and is still chambered in that caliber.

I can't remember where I came across this thread, but as I said, it served as inspiration for my rifle.

Stock: McMillan A5, 80% black, 10% white, and 10% grey
Barrel: Shilen 5.5 cut to 20" and threaded
Scope: Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 w/EBR 1 reticle
Rings: Vortex 30mm matched rings
Bottom metal: Battle Arms Development
Mags: Accuracy International
Suppressor: Lane Scorpion King All-Titanium 30 caliber
Bipod: Caldwell
Bolt Handle: DD Ross

Checked the weight, and fully loaded with the bipod she tips the scales at 12 lbs. But it doesn't feel like 12 lbs.

I have only had her out to test fire and break in the barrel. I'm currently not able to do much more as I'm out of commission due to recent fusion surgery (C5/6).

Using Hornady 150gr Whitetail Hunter, I was able to get her mostly dialed in.

(Don't mind the flyer, one of the bags on my Lead Sled fell off just as I pulled the trigger.)

I've still got work to do getting a good load for her, which will be fun in and of itself. At least she's dialed in enough to do a little deer hunting with later this year.

Thank you all for the inspiration.

@Tshakabika Is that a tacops surgeon/AI combo?? Badass man!
That's a Tac Ops .308 built on a Surgeon 591 action and mounted into a KMW Sentinel stock. That is the first rifle Tac Ops has mounted in a Sentinel stock, and Tshakabika calls it a "Tshakabika 51". In Tac Ops speak the number following the model of the rifle specifies the OAL of the cartridge in millimeters. Thus, the "51" in "X-Ray 51" designates .308 chambering (7.62mmx51mm), the "66" in "X-Ray 66" designates .300WM chambering (7.62mmx66mm), the "45" in "X-Ray 45" designates .223 Remington chambering (5.56mmx45mm), the "70" in "X-Ray 70" designates .338 LM Remington chambering (8.6mmx70mm), and so on.

Well my junk sure isn't as high speed as your guys. But, it does shoot good for what it is. Run of your mill SPS Varmint. Since I've added the B&C stock the groups have closed up to under 1moa very consistently. Here's a breakdown.

Remington 700 SPS Varmint 26" barrel
Bell and Carlson A5
Badger M5 DBM
Badger 20 MOA base and rings
Timney 510
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50
Some junk Harris knock off bipod that came with the rifle

Got some Duracoat sprayed on my rifle, I was looking for some shade of green, but I let my son pick colour and he chose brown, or as Duracoat calls it "Norwegian Army Brown". Im very pleased with the result.

Winchester Extreme Weather M70

I got tired of trying to lug my heavy SPR while hunting, so I decided to build a light, long range rifle. Started with a new Winchester Extreme Weather Stainless rifle. Beded the stock, tuned the trigger, and got rid of the factory aluminum trigger guard for a all stainless steel unit. Sent it off to Short action customs (they do fantastic work!)and had them install the medium sized Hunter bolt knob, install the big screw Badger SPR base and Cerakote the rifle coyote. Sucker will shoot under .5in all day long and .25in when I do my part. Shoots every bit as well as my big heavy SPR but would not want to sit behind it all day. It starts to hurt!

That looks awesome.

Are MARS rails still available? Where does one find one?

Badger makes them for Remington. Not sure if they are in commercial production as they are never listed on the site (I'm assuming they are almost all contract pieces) but you could start with Marty and then try to get lucky on the for sale section or gunbroker. Be careful though, they can get ridiculously expensive as they are not common.

If I wasn't doing a clone build, I would probably just get a McCann section upfront for the clip on.

As mentioned previously, it is in fact a Surgeon 591 sitting in a KMW Sentinel thanks to Tactical Operations. The model was designated "Bakatwa 51" by myself as it didn't follow any specification offered by TacOps.

The scope is a Hensoldt sitting in a SPUHR mount.

Cheers.

These are very nice rigs! truely love the wood grain in the first pic... nice shoot'n too, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Dragon64, I like the feel and look of the walnut stocks so i'll keep them.
I was lucky that the .243 shoots so well, all that has been done to it is the bedding, barrel shortened to 20" and threaded for the suppressor.

Started out back in 1992 as a bone stock Remington 700 PSS with hunting style rings/base and a Springfield Gen 1 Government model scope.

Then I eventually I painted it.
Desert PSS Crop.JPG

Now for the present. After burning out the factory barrel I decided to take the plunge and really upgrade it.
Action has been trued and bolt lugs lapped.
The barrel has been replaced with a Bartlein 5R 1x11.25 twist M40 profile cut rifle barrel. It's been cut down to 20 inches. It also has a Badger Ordnance oversized recoil lug and an AAC brakeout flash hider/muzzle brake.
The barrel, brake, and action have been Cerakoted FDE.
The stock is the factory HS Precision painted Krylon satin dark desert tan.
Sling is leather from Turner saddlery.
Trigger is a Timney 510.
Rings are Weaver Tactical.
Base is a 20 MOA from EGW.
Badger Ordnance picatinny angle of cosine
Scope is a Vortex Viper PST 5x24x50 with the EBR-2C MRAD reticle.

AI AX308MC, Nightforce BEAST, SPUR mount, Atlas bipod. This thing will print sub 1/4" groups and ring the 1065 yard steel plate at my local range 9-10 times with the miss being a sudden wind gust during bullet flight. AWESOME RIG!
