Well, my deer season sucked and I saw coyotes every time I sat in the stand. Now that deer season is over, I want to give the yotes a try. What would be the best electronic call under $150? These yotes have never been hunted so I doubt they are they wariest ones out there.

I've raided the squeekers on a couple $1 dog toys that sound as good as the JS rabbit squaller too.

Re: Predator Call 150$

You can use the $20-off coupon and get a FoxPro Spitfire for $180 from Midway. IMHO, you won't get a better electronic caller for $180.

Re: Predator Call 150$

Use a hand call. Electronic calls are good for while, but the same rabbit over and over seems to be less affective. Hand calls, even when you screw up, make sounds unique most of the time. Carver Custom Calls...

+1

Electronic calls, although sometimes handy to have, are one of the absolute most overrated over hyped things there are.

Re: Predator Call 150$

if you happen to have one of those Iphones, there is an application ut there that has some real good sounds you can download. my brother in law just did that, and with an external speaker plugged in, it sounds real good.

i forgot what he said he paid for the speaker, (he's cheap, so it can't be that much) and the downloaded calls were free.

Re: Predator Call 150$

There's advantages to both. I can think of five distinct ones in favor of an electronic caller. 1, switching on an electronic caller takes no particular skill so it becomes useful from the moment I open the box. 2, the prey is less likely to discover me while investigating the caller. 3, since I'm not co-located with the source of the sound, the prey is more likely to present me a broadside shot when investigating it. 4, using the call doesn't require I remove either hand from my rifle. And 5, I have caller sound files for everything from alligators to woodpeckers. I don't have to buy another call or learn another technique for any of the other game I hunt.

Hand calls vs. Electronics????

Electronic pros....

1. Extra volume is nice on windier days (also widely abused)
2. "Exotic" or "novelty" sounds
3. Ability to get away from sound when hunting solo (this is nice sometimes, but hardly a necessity if ones set up right and on their toes).

Cons

1. Batteries and cold.....'nuff said.
2. Harder to quickly change sounds.
3. Sound xxxxx sounds like everyone else's sound xxxxx with that call. (makes a difference in hard hunted areas)
4. Repetitious nature of sounds (most are on relatively short sound loops, savvy coyotes WILL pick up on this and give you the finger from a half-mile)
5. Good ones aren't cheap.
6. Easy to abuse by rookies through to much volume, over calling, and going through a multitude of sounds in a single set.
7. More to carry (if you hunt where I do, ALL extra weight counts when your humping through 30"+ of snow)

Hand call pros....

1. Easy to use (if you got a kid between 2 and 20, give em the call and I bet they can call in a coyote with a "distress sound")
2. Ability to instantaneously add inflection, emotion, and sound variances to the call, also ability to instantaneously change sounds completely (no buttons, no dials, I can go from jackrabbit distress to a howl to a squeek in the blink of a coyotes eye)
3. Cheap
4. Same call rarely sounds the same with different guys blowing it.
5. There is literally a hand call out there that can mimic just about every sound available to electronic call users (almost).

Cons....

1. Solo callers associated with the sound
2. Can be difficult to get the sound out there on windy days.

There is just not much an electronic call can do that a guy cannot do with mouth calls.

Ill also add, the sound you make is the LEAST important aspect of a successful stand. If they see/hear you come in, the fanciest e-call in the world isn't likely to bring em in. An e-caller doesn't compensate for lack of hunting fundamentals. If your not calling where theres not many critters, an e-call isn't going to improve your success.

There's a soundboard app for winmo and andoid too.

Re: Predator Call 150$

Try a hand call first they are easy to use and less chance of having volume too high. I use a dan tompson ps2, I have a fox pro 3 but has taken some getting use to. Hand calls are cheap and work. You may add in a mouse squeker also. Have fun good luck
