Re: Predator Call 150$
Hand calls vs. Electronics????
Electronic pros....
1. Extra volume is nice on windier days (also widely abused)
2. "Exotic" or "novelty" sounds
3. Ability to get away from sound when hunting solo (this is nice sometimes, but hardly a necessity if ones set up right and on their toes).
Cons
1. Batteries and cold.....'nuff said.
2. Harder to quickly change sounds.
3. Sound xxxxx sounds like everyone else's sound xxxxx with that call. (makes a difference in hard hunted areas)
4. Repetitious nature of sounds (most are on relatively short sound loops, savvy coyotes WILL pick up on this and give you the finger from a half-mile)
5. Good ones aren't cheap.
6. Easy to abuse by rookies through to much volume, over calling, and going through a multitude of sounds in a single set.
7. More to carry (if you hunt where I do, ALL extra weight counts when your humping through 30"+ of snow)
Hand call pros....
1. Easy to use (if you got a kid between 2 and 20, give em the call and I bet they can call in a coyote with a "distress sound")
2. Ability to instantaneously add inflection, emotion, and sound variances to the call, also ability to instantaneously change sounds completely (no buttons, no dials, I can go from jackrabbit distress to a howl to a squeek in the blink of a coyotes eye)
3. Cheap
4. Same call rarely sounds the same with different guys blowing it.
5. There is literally a hand call out there that can mimic just about every sound available to electronic call users (almost).
Cons....
1. Solo callers associated with the sound
2. Can be difficult to get the sound out there on windy days.
There is just not much an electronic call can do that a guy cannot do with mouth calls.
Ill also add, the sound you make is the LEAST important aspect of a successful stand. If they see/hear you come in, the fanciest e-call in the world isn't likely to bring em in. An e-caller doesn't compensate for lack of hunting fundamentals. If your not calling where theres not many critters, an e-call isn't going to improve your success.
