Hey guys, I used the search feature but couldn’t get everything I was looking for. I have a couple bighorn builds and I love them. I’m building my wife a rifle and was gonna use a bh origin, I already have a 6br prefit. I don’t know to much about some of the other custom actions though. What actions out there take savage prefits with a barrel nut? What actions can shouldered prefits be had from gunsmiths without sending my action in. Specifically interested in knowing about impact, defiance and lone peak actions? Thanks.

Ultimatum, America Rifle Company are ones that take savage prefits with a barrel nut.
Impact actions have great tolerances for buying prechambered barrels for. Supposedly the Defiance tenacity does as well but I’m not for sure.
Also Curtis actions

On the impacts are most gunsmiths willing to spin you a shouldered prefit or are most still requiring the action. I’ve seen a few things that makes me think they will and others that imply you need the barrel fitted to the individual action.

I actually had a well known smith request I send in my Lone Peak. Apparently there's a range of serial numbers they will do prefits for, and some they want the action in hand to verify.

my smith has my TL3 in hand just to confirm a rechamber on a PVA barrel. (putting a 6creed reamer in a Dasher). he's an F class guy and is maybe anal about it but it'll shoot great

I am on the Impact. I’ve had enough of them to measure to feel comfortable that it can be done and it’ll be right. It’s definitely a personal preference for gunsmiths.

That’s been my results as well. Some of the “older” actions didn’t have the tolerances to do prefits

Yes, it's the newer models which are built to tight enough tolerances where pre-fits can be made without action in hand.

Not sure what serial number that starts at, would be nice information for people to know.

Yep.I have #251 and#257..There is .002 difference between the two.I believe you can have bolt face milled deeper to match up to current headspace #’s

Handle an impact if you can. You’ll buy one once you do. Also straight jacket armory does awesome barrels along with proof prefits for them along with many great gunsmiths as others have said.
