Well, after a long wait, I finally got out and did some shooting with the 6.5DD (6.5 Gendel improved to 40° and forward .075"). This is in my AR with a 24" Brux barrel, chambered by them. I tested the 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, and the 123 grain Lapua Scenar. This round I used Accurate 2520 for the powder, PPU brass, and the CCI BR2 large rifle primer.

So far, I saw some great accuracy with a couple different loads, but maxing out around 2630 for velocity with these loads. I am going to take this rifle to the UT State shoot, and am going to run the 123 scenar with 32.0 grains of 2520. Will do more testing after that shoot with other powders, and might try to play with seating a little bit. So far getting faint pressure signs at 32.0 grains.

Below are the targets with group and velocity information.

120 Nosler Ballistic Tip:

Target #5: 1.201" 2487 Avg, ES 85, SD 35
Target #4: .705" 2549 Avg, ES 30, SD 10
Target #3: .786" 2590 Avg, ES 22, SD 08
Target #2: .490" 2602 Avg, ES 25, SD 12 (4-shot, bent case)
Target #1: 1.176" 2612 Avg, ES 20, SD 09
Target #S: 1.324" 2642 Avg, ES 29, SD 10

123 grain Scenar:

Target #5: .295" 2514 Avg, ES 33, SD 12 (3-shot, -2 for zero)
Target #4: .705" 2574 Avg, ES 34, SD 14
Target #3: 1.261" 2596 Avg, no more info
Target #2: 1.169" 2591 Avg, ES 43, SD 18
Target #1: 1.017" 2605 Avg, ES 31, SD 13
Target #S: .829" 2636 Avg, ES 21, SD 08

Target #S with the 123 Scenar kinda speaks for itself. The far left hole has 3 rounds in it. I shot all of these groups off the bench with a bipod, unable to load it up, I didn't feel super great about any of them. I feel like Target #S will be an awesome load, and I am going to do some more shooting with it prone and see how I like it.

I feel like this case can do more, and need to experiment maybe bump the charge on this powder up a little more by .1 grain at a time and see. I will also try some other powders and see if I can eek out the max performance with this case (hoping for around 2700 with a 123 class bullet). Maybe Hodgdon's new Superformance powder will help this case shine.

Thanks for looking

Re: Preliminary data for the 6.5DD

Very, very kewl DD!

Been waiting to see how this turns out. I think you should post these results over at the 6.5 forum as well. I'll bet some of those guys who have been trying their own variants may be able to help you with powder selection, etc.

Nice work man,
