I've been looking at the Premiere 5-25 & the USO SN-3 TPal 5-25.

I love the Premiere scope and would love to buy it but I don't like the reticle....I can make it work, but the USO MPR reticle is really nice.

I really like the MPR's .2 Mil hash marks for ranging.

I currently have a Leupold TMR reticle and I love using the small .2 Mil increments when ranging.

I'm an engineer so guesstimating really bothers me.

Anyone put a different reticle on a Premiere (I see myself making errors with the Gen2 + there's no finer divisions/increments...other than .5mil)?

I've never put a different reticle on a scope, what other options are there for getting a different reticle on a Premiere?

Re: Premiere Scope - USO Reticle/Different Reticle

If you want more granular reticle markings then have a look at the H2CMR or the MSR reticle. The MSR was developed specifically for the Finnish military snipers (If I'm a correct). You can get is installed via this company

You just need to familiarize yourself with the Gen 2 XR, which has multiple 0.2 MIL measuring points. The 0.5 MIL hash marks are all 0.2 MIL "Wide" (end-to-end) on the main vertical line (reference Dimension "H" on the diagram below), and the 0.5 MIL hash marks are all 0.2 MIL "Tall" (top-to-bottom) on the main horizontal line. The "Plus signs" of the "Christmas Tree" are also 0.2 MIL square (reference Dimension "L" on the diagram below).

The 1.0 MIL Hash marks on the main vertical line are 0.25 MIL "Wide" (end-to-end) (reference Dimension "M" on the diagram below).

Re: Premiere Scope - USO Reticle/Different Reticle

Yeah,

I understand that I can "get it" and can piece it together, but on the fly...when you don't have much time...I don't think I can actually piece all of that together without error. At least I'm not that good yet (but I doubt I will ever be).

Here is an example of how I like the decreasing scale (or fine subdivisions) to try and get an accurate range without piecing things together, I want to be able to lay my ruler down and get my Mil count (remember I'm an engineer, and not perfect bothers me).

I know that the license plate is 6" tall, and with my leupold TMR scope I get this. Not perfect, taking photos of this was harder than I thought. But I can come up with a height of 1.5 Mils (I need to be at a different distance because this was to easy and fell right on 1.5 (but I always get the case of between 1.1 - 1.4 Mils when I'm out in the pasture ranging a wild hog, deer, or coyote).

So at 1.5 Mils that should be 111 yrd. Now actual is 107 yards (or 1.55 Mils).

At 1200 yards with a .300 Win Mag 190gr Sierra MatchKings a error of 5 yrds ranging is equal to about 6" of bullet drop. So I could easily miss vitals on a coyote or a hog.

So being off by .05Mils at 1200 yrds is worth 6"...and at 2000 yrds its 20". Man those guys shooting 2200+ are good!

I'll have to check out those other reticles. I'm ok with the extra $ to add on to the Premiere. 400lbs of meat at $3.00/lb is worth $1200 (we just made 400lbs of sausage, so I know I'll be putting it to use).

Then again, looking at the Gen. 2, like you said I might just have to get used to it and spend some time with it.

Thanks for the help guys!

You're gonna like the MPR. I traded a PR 5-25 GenII XR for my 5-25 TPal w/MPR and haven't looked back. Actually all my other scopes became MPR's since.

I like the MPR too. On my last USO, I really contemplated the 1000 charge for a custom reticle. I was thinking about taking the MPR and removing the center of the crosshair (inside of the first .5 mil hashes in all 4 directions) and putting a fine dot in the center (as small as can be illuminated) and perhaps some sort of scale at the bottom, ala the P4.

Re: Premiere Scope - USO Reticle/Different Reticle

That would be a nice reticle.

So I just picked up a scope here on the hide, and went with you guy's suggestion.

USO TPal 5-25x58 with mil scale MPR & mil turrets. Can't wait for it to get here. Thanks so much for the input.

You know, you don't see as many people raving about the USO's as you do with other scopes here on this site, it's all about NF, S&B, PH, & counter sniper

(ha I had to).

After doing a lot of research the top scopes compete with each other so much it's hard to choose. After considering all the options that each company competes so well with my decision came down to Made in the USA, customer service reputation, mil/mil with a good mil scale reticle that is easy to use and easy to range with, that tracks well. I'm very happy with my choice, and I might have to keep my Mk4 for my regular 270 hunting rifle as it's not shabby either.

People shooting 1K+ aren't using mils to range. Unless you have a known height you imediately run into problems. If that 2' tall coyote is 1" taller or shorter than average, that's a an error of 4%, or 48 yards @ 1200 yards. Even if you do find something of fixed size, you're going to still have problems.

At those ranges you really need to be using a range finder, not mils.

Re: Premiere Scope - USO Reticle/Different Reticle

I use a range finder as well, I also use other parts of the animal that don't vary in size as much, but you can't see those features out past 1k either. Most of the time I'm between 400-800 yards.

I also have fence T-posts all over the place with the top 6" painted white. So I use those or other markers that I know the size of. I've got these out to 1500 where I've seen hogs and others before (I missed with my bushnell cheapo

).

Yes, for actual live targets, I should be ok becuase the error won't be too bad at the shorter distances. For out to longer, that's just for fun shooting targets.

Re: Premiere Scope - USO Reticle/Different Reticle

Way to go capkilo 66 been doing research for the last 60 days looking for the right scope really like Premier a lot and would be first choice but reticles suck Horus to much money. This is what I found Gen 2 Mil Dot to old school Gen 2 XR To wishie washie would take for ever to come up with a shooting soultion best choice Moa/Moa reticle but I wont Mil/Mil So if you are into accurate ranging there are two that I come up with and the winner is S&B with H2CMR and the best of the best MSR (Multipurpose Sniper Reticle) I feel your pain I also have a 8.5x25 TMR Leupold Love the Ret but really ready to upgrade the scope. THE SEARCH IS OVER MY CHOICE SCHMIDT & BENDER WITH MSR RETICLE.
