Counter Sniper, it's the scope that got Usama Bin Laden. If you hurry you can get one as they had a little bit of an over run from a government contract.

Its really kind of a secret though. just saying for OPSEC purposes we never told you.

Re: Present day issued sniper scope...........

My buddy tells me they're using a Counter Sniper on top of a glass bedded AR10. But, like High Binder said, you better pick one up now because they just got another Govt contract.

I suspect they will have an "overrun" on that contract. What's the term for them . . . very snippery.

The Mark 4 linked below is issued AFAIK for the M24
I have one and really enjoy it. That's just one of many scopes issued though.

Have to agree...be nice to the guy and answer the question. It is a legitimate question.

Re: Present day issued sniper scope...........

Leupold has more scopes active in the US Military than every other brand combined.

The new XM2010 upgrade for the M24 uses the new Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm scope with locking turrets and 34mm tube. However that scope is not in production until 2012 for civilians. Probably cause they will be busy all of 2011 building them for the military.

The new M110 semi-auto sniper system which was supposed to replace the M24 uses the Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm M2 with Illuminated TMR.

If you want what the US military uses then Leupold Mark 4 will serve you well.

Anyone can purchase the new 34mm Leupold's with locking turrets, a few guys on here are rocking one.(I believe the ER/T 6.5x20mm is a better deal as it is half the price with 33% more elevation adjustment) The leupold that I would wait for is the 3-25, 34mm tube, this one has had some design issues but should be ready and coming out next summer.

Midwayusa:

Also Leupold has the best military discount than any Optic Company.
The marine variant of the M110 is supposed to be fitted with the Premier 3-15X50

Not every branch uses Leupy. I'm not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, however, S&B, which is still feilded by the USMC is your best bet for day scopes... remember the scope or rifle doesn't mean shit if you can't drive it

I want to add the old 10x Unertl on the 40A3s still floating around out there

The M110 in link has one on top. </div></div>

I don't believe you read that quite correctly. They are augmenting the S&B offering with PR scopes as PR no longer modifies and supplies S&B scopes. The newer PR scopes have been approved as an acceptable replacement for the S&B scopes. I have not seen anything that would indicated that the Corps is retiring S&B scopes.

Re: Present day issued sniper scope...........

I'm not entirely sure myself, that was the only somewhat related article I have seen. thats why i included it. Maybe augmenting would have been a better choice to use. Either way they are in country as we speak, as 2/8 replaced 2/9 i heard they had PR on their guns.

Why are they replacing the S&Bs? Were the mods being done by Premier something that S&B couldn't do?

No idea... My friend told me they got new scopes with the new rifles and I asked him to sent me a pic and they were PH's. Don't know why they did it and they don't either.

Re: Present day issued sniper scope...........

I believe the 110s were spec'd with PR scopes and not the S&Bs that are on the M40A3s.

S&B has the repair contract for the USMC S&B scopes so they will fix any problems.
