Where are the Amish who built tiny homes for the devastated. Where are the lineman who risked life and limb to get power back on for folks? Where are the folks who get up at 5 AM everyday and risk their lives to build our homes and keep our infrastructure running?
We pass heroes everyday who do what is takes to keep us warm and dry. They expect no special recognition and they get none. They get no industry discounts, no constant canonization. No parade if they are killed on the job. There will be no freedom medal. Many will face old age with crap retirement (if any)and a broken body. No, for many their reward will be a hot meal at days end, seeing their kids grow and make families of their own.
Our city sewer folks have to blow our line periodically because folks can’t keep feminine products out of the old sewer pipes. Everytime they come to my door to let me know because it splashes my downstairs toilet. During the height of covid, one guy who came regular had some sort of device on his side piped into him. It had chemotherapy medicine that was being metered into him. He was still working, during COVID and glad to be doing so. Just a super nice guy..
I didn’t see him for a while, so I asked about him and come to find out he had passed away. He was pretty young. His daughter had taken his job with the city. There was no parade, no medal from the President.
