I have a friend that wants me to load him some 308 win. He has all the brass bullets powder and primers but the brass is once fired LC brass and has crimped in primers. So how much should I charge him per 100 rounds or how much a hour thanks.

I think if you are loading for a friend, you should just help him out. I really don't think the profit you make from 100 rounds of labor is really gonna make or break you. Could pay dividends in the future when YOU need help one day. If it's not a friend, I wouldn't do it for them at all because if something goes wrong then he will probably blame you for it and again just not worth it.

I don't remember ever charging anything for helping out a friend.

I would never load for anyone but myself. Even though I am meticulous in my loading, I occasionally wonder about that round that might sneak through. Maybe a squib load that I am prepared for and can safely deal with.
My point is, I can live personally with an issue I am responsible for, but if it causes some one else a problem that would be a different story. Not to mention, the potential legal implications if there is a problem would keep me up at night.
My suggestion is to invite him over with his stuff and help him load it...

If you charge him, you are "manufacturing ammunition" under Federal law. You will then need a FFL and insurance plus any local taxes and permits. Plus the possible inspection of your facilities and a berth in the Fed prison if you have violated any laws. Volunteer your services and help him learn. Even if you do most of the work you will be within the spirit and letter of the law. In today's climate...don't violate the Federal laws. JMHO

have him bring the beer and pizza the next time he's over to watch a game at your place
if he's not that good of a friend, refer him to southwest ammunition. they have a reloading service for 308, along with all the paperwork, licenses and liability. Something to consider: if something happens to him because of one of your handloads, you'll be in a bad spot.

I dont charge anything to reload, if they want to give me a tip when they pay me for the supplies thats up to them, if your buddy isnt a cheap bastard like some of the people I load for he'll give a few bucks.

The short answer is don't charge him...
to charge someone you need a class 6 FFL I believe , that runs 150 per 3 years, then you have to pay $2500 to some international agency and register as someone that can make war materials. Plus liability insurance, 1 mil $ minimum. Then they will come inspect your location. If you reload in your house, they have the obligation to inform your homeowners insurance of what you are doing and your rate there will go up.. then there is the zoning issues of having hazmat explosives in a residential area.....
So don't charge anything. Just do it and trade out for something. You can only load for yourself without needed a license under federal law.

Like others have said,don't charge anything.When ask by others,even good friends,I suggest they come by when they have time and I will help them.Sometimes this gets someone new into the hobby.You can still invite them to bring beer and pizza,for after the work is over. Lightman

Charge nothing and instead teach them how to reload. I've done it more times that I can count and other than the "You break it you buy it (replace it)" rule I can't imagine charging a friend to reload.
Besides you never know if they get in to reloading and you mysteriously find yourself short on Large Rifle Magnum Primers who might step up, not that I have ever had THAT happen......

If he wants to shoot without doing the reloading, he should buy commercial ammo. You are not an employee, and there are too many issues that don't mix well with friendship..
Otherwise, you could provide him with access and instruction in how to use your equipment; the way friends do.

I do sometime give some reloads to friends, but it does not give me a peaceful, easy feeling. I consider him sticking in another round after a squib (even after I've warned him of the possibility numerous times) and blowing something up. I've never had a bullet lodge in the barrel, but I know that the first time is out there somewhere.

yea, handing out reloads gives me an uneasy feeling. i let people come over and do their own with my oversight no problem.

I would help a friend for free, and teach him.
If he isn't interested in learning, and just wants a deal to save money, I would refer him to somewhere where he can buy cheap ammo. Reloading ammo wouldn't save him all that much per round if he can get federal GMM for $1.00 per round. If he is so cheap that he wants you to do the work to save him money, he is abusing the friendship.
I would NOT reload for someone because of the liability. You might trust your friend, but if someone else shoots one of your rounds and something happens, it can come back onto you. If he loads it, it is his liability.
If he is a good friend, he will enjoy learning, and spending the time with you. If he isn't that good of a friend, well, you can decide how much the relationship is worth.

I have to admit that in the past, i reloaded for a friend. Luckily everything went fine. He had just bought a new rifle for his dad and wanted some good ammo to go with it. I found the recipe for the 168 FGGM (as close to it as possible) and loaded it up. I shot some in my rifle and it shot great! so i loaded up 100 more and added that to his christmas gift... Having said that, now that i am a little older and wiser, i would not do that again. I dont want the responsibility if something were to go wrong. Maybe ammo related, or even firearm related. If something brakes, they can point fingers at you. I just dont want that hanging over me. I definitely agree with the others that have said, teach your friend how to reload. To most of us its alot of fun and really rewarding!

I have a buddy who does some reloading for me. I buy all the components and he charges me nothing but I always leave a bottle of Scotch.

I have never charged anyone and I have always loaded ammo for my brother. He works on my house for free when I have things I am unable to do and he shoots free ammo
