Primer notification thread?

I post a thread but delete the thread when the primers are gone, last week midway had lrp with a 1k limit
Yea I keep missing out with
It’s a chat app you can get notifications for powder, primers, ammo etc. let me see if I can figure out how to post a link

thanks dude!

If I’ve got a back order request in place does that reserve my purchase or does the auto buy supersede my back order?

Back orders are usually filled before the product is even added to stock so you should be safe.

I’m good on primers just need some more H1000.

Edit: these days who knows though. Not surprised to hear of employees buying entire shipments before they’re entered into the system either for themselves or to flip on GB. Maybe I should apply to my lgs to get first crack?

yeah by the time folks buy primers, powder etc and get thru the checkout process, and then post on discord or elsewhere, the goodies are already long gone. i have a handful of websites up and just go thru and refresh them manually and by the time i cycle back to the start i've already missed some in stock stuff.

Saw it first hand at sportsman’s by me. Waited in line for them to open. Went in to see no primers. Stood around for a little bit looking at what powder they had. Saw a guy walk straight to the back counter, and an employee goes behind the counter and grabs a 1k worth or LRP for the guy who showed up late. I asked if they have anymore where those came from and without missing a beat he tells me that’s all the had.

Was I pissed? Yea. Would I use a hook up if I had it? Fuck yea. The times we are in.

Some of the Gunbroker resellers have been using auto-buy software to sweep supply when big sellers like Midway have stock. If you know anything about the Nvidia graphics cards releases, this is the same problem of folks manipulating supply.

Spot on. I have gotten 3 notifications in the past 3 months about primers from Midway. Even going there within seconds isn’t fast enough for the bots.

I wish these retailers would setup a bot check.

How are you guys able to place back orders? I've had every large rifle primer Midway has listed on notification for months, but they all say 'no back order' so no way to get in line per se.

Not a backorder. The auto buy he is referring to is a bot. Basically, you setup a program with your payment info and criteria. When a vender lists it as in stock, the bot buys it in a fraction of a second.

The MidwayUSA notifications are worthless at this point.
Be shame if, some hacker that is into reloading got into said scalpers device and bricked it lol, see now we're all going to have to build bots to skeez for primers, I have to say the discord is pretty cool and fast, powder valley had a massive powder drop last night and it crashed their server. Definitely join the reloading discord, if any primers pop up that are actually there I will post it here, I guess powder too

Yup! At first, I was disappointed that Powder Valley doesn’t have notifications, but now I think it’s a good thing.

Their server crashed 2 weeks ago as I was buying some powder but it went through and they were solid with communication.

so from lurking around on discord seems they are also using a program/app called Distill that monitors web pages for changes then sends an alert. They were talking about getting their ip’s banned by mid south for bot like activity and how to get the refresh rate down to a minute or two. This is nuts.

brave new world eh?

I'm mostly in the same boat as everyone else on this. Ive had a couple shots at shotgun primers and the 3rdgenerationsupply. Once in a while BassPro/Cabelas will list in stock primers but it mostly happens at weird times like midnight and their online inventory isnt always correct.

The best defense against the scalpers it not to buy their stuff. Not now, not ever. Take note of who they are and don’t buy from them. The supply will return and we aren’t feeding or defending our family off our ability to home roll ammo.

If you have been reloading for any amount of time, you should know this is part of it.

I recall the days of the great .22lr shortage, where people were buying insane numbers of .22lr thinking they were gonna get rich. I can’t tell you how many yard sales/estate sales that same ammo has been bought for pennies after the economic genius passed on.

Yep. Sometimes karma works.

At that time, there were two gun stores in a town not far from me. One had been there a long time on the main drag through town. Decent sized place, decent stock.

A new one, also offering pawn services, opened several blocks south on the same road. Maybe half the size. If you visited one store, it was a short walk to the other.

Short version: Big established store's prices were far higher than the little one. When the post-Sandy Hook shortages hit, little store kept prices the same, and when stock was gone, it was gone. Many days, there would be a long line of people waiting to get in when the place opened. Big store... well, I went in just once during that period. Nice lady greeted me as I entered. The place was empty. I had just left the little store, which was packed.

"I know it's silly to ask," I said, "but do you have any .22?"

"Yes," she chirped. Whaaat... O. Yeah. $15 for a box of 50 CCI or Federal bulk rounds, which brand would you like... No thanks. Looked in cases at handguns... $100 more for exact same models being sold in the little store. I left. Never went back.

Fast forward a few years. Little store moved into a new location maybe triple the size of the old, and the philosophy remained the same: no gouging during shortages. It's still growing. Big store closed... no customers.

Yet somehow CTD is still around and currently selling 9mm for $1.39/rd...

8 million new gun owners buying 2 boxes each... Do the math.

Covid shutting down critical bottleneck operations in ammunition manufacturing all over the world.

Government letting animals run wild burn and loot and kill with zero accountability.

Pick your poison. That is why Ammo is hard to find.
