I'm new to the forum and been reloading for a couple of years now on a very small scale. I wanted some opinions on good primers for both Small Rifle loads and also Large Rifle loads. I use Winchester, mainly because it is what is most offered to me at the local shops. I wanted to see what the majority of you guys that do it more often than me use. Thanks in advance for your input!

What calibers are you reloading for? I'm running 6 Creed and 6.5x47 which both use SRP brass and use CCI 450s with good results. In my 6.5 Creed I used large rifle FGMM and they also worked well. For 223 I use FGMM as well.

Thanks for the replies! Right now I am mainly reloading my AR-15, .30-06 and about to start reloading 9mm, .380, .40 S&W & .45 ACP pistol loads. I also am about to start reloading .308 for my M1A and my brother asked if I would reload him some 7mm-08 rounds.

I have had a couple of misfires with the Winchester, one of which was on my son's first deer with my AR. Luckily we were able to re-rack and have a good load on the second shot. Thanks for all the advice and I am always open to it.

I don't shoot/reload in large enough quantities to make hazmat fees pay, so I am limited to what is available locally.

In magnums, I have been able to work up very consistent loads with the winchester large rifle magnum primers; HOWEVER... in cold weather (15*F) I have noticed a lack of consistency with them, including failure to fire. I think that I tracked the FTF down to excessive/thick lubricant on the firing pin/spring. In moderate temps, the WLRM primers have produced low es/sd, but in colder weather, not so much. When my current 1000 round box gets low, I'll be looking for something else. I did pick up a couple hundred FGMM Magnum primers to experiment and they worked well, but the local availability is poor.

For regular large rifle primers, I personally have found no reason to look father than the CCI 200. Good availability, consistent, reliable.

For my AR15s I use Remington 7.5 benchrest primers. No complaints with these, either.

Thanks!

For small rifle, I use Remington 7-1/2 benchrest primers for .223 loads for AR-15.

For large rifle primers, CCI-200s for 6.5 Creedmoor, .308, and 30-06. Used to use the CCI-BR2s before they got so expensive and have not noticed any differences by switching to the CCI-200s.
