i have a issue with fired brass not being ejected from the gun. Upon cycling the bolt (m700) the brass is pulled from the chamber but is left laying loose on top of the next round in the mag. No issue with hornady brass.

It must be engaging to some extent as the case is pulled from the chamber but falling loose from the bolt before the case mouth clears the ejection oort

Check to make sure your ejector pin can move. It's not uncommon to have a piece of brass/gunk wedge and not allow the pin to move thereby not throwing the case from the receiver.

The extractor grooves between them are quite different. Grab your calipers and take some comparative measurements of the two case types, see where the change is. Also, inspect the extractor marks, if any, that appear on the rims or grooves of the extracted cases. The pic below shows a hornady case on top, and a lapua on the bottom. The diameter of the extractor groove is also different between the two. The lapua is fatter.
