Got a thousand processed .308 cases from Top Brass the other day and close to half of them were the same head stamp. No telling what it was fired in but it is nicely polished and primer pocket crimp is removed and they fit well into a headspace guage. The necks look like they will have +- .006-.007 squeeze when seating bullets. Would you run an expander thru the necks or just call it good?

Re: Processed .308 brass

I would try some.

But before I loaded them, I'd run a feeler up and down the inside case wall, especially down in the bottom 1/2"-3/4", looking for a slight groove running in a cirle around the inside of the case. This indicates the case was fired in a chamber with excessive headspace, as is very common with machine guns. The presence of such a groove indicates that the case was overstressed, and represents the beginning of a case head separation vulnerability. Cases with such grooves may be unsuitible for relosding, especially with snappy loads.

.006"-.007" neck tension is quite a bit. I would try some that way and another bunch with the expander; to see what consequences the two approaches provide. That way, you'll know...
