building a 28 nosler on a bighorn tl3 (finally done!!), and was about to order a bartlein barrel when I had a last minute thought. Since I'm using the heavy gen 2 razor, maybe I could save some weight with a proof barrel.

I have read people not liking them but recently have been seeing positive reviews/testimony. Franks write up on his visit there a couple years ago was nothing but positive.

My my question is, are they ok for a large magnum like the 28 nosler? If so, will a 28" barrel be too long if I'm hanging a suppressor off the end? Should I stay 26"? I'd like the longer barrel for velocity, but not a deal breaker.

I have a Proof barrel on my Lazzeroni Warbird. Similar to the 28 Nosler just better :p

I went with a 26" the weight of a Proof isn't as light as you would think. It does really well. I get 5 shots before major heat from the barrel. I'm using 93 grains of H1000 and 94.6 of Retumbo so my 212's are screaming at 3124 fps.

I like the look and performance, but don't think you are saving weight. They will make you go Sendero profile.

Can't really help on the Proof Bbl, but I would make sure to get an 8.25 or 8 twist to handle the 195's . The 28 will push them over 3100 fps and the down range ballistics are very impressive.

I have 1 carbon Bbl but no suppressor . With a 28 , 26" will take you wherever you want to go, 28" won't hurt if you can stand the extra length.

If I go with a 26" sendero, weight chart says about 3-1/2 lbs. if I went with bartlein med palma (I know not the same contour but what I would use), it says about 5-1/4lbs but that is 30", so say 5 lbs or just under. Maybe not a huge weight savings, but I see about a pound there give or take. That'd be enough to offset the tank razor gen 2.

Good to hear about a large magnum having success with a prof barrel, I can't find much online.
