Proof carbon fiber barrel builds

Wtf color is that prs2? Looks bad ass!

Its a custom sponge job I did.

Not happy with the 30 Nosler? I was tossing up building one or a 300PRC as my long range build, pretty much the same as yours except using a lone peak fuzion and a 28” proof.

I got a load under 1/2” this past weekend at 2,965 fps running 80 gr of H1000 pushing the 212 ELDX. Going to tune from there by adjusting the jump. I like the 30 Nosler over the PRC. If I didnt have a 6.5 CM I might try a 6.5 PRC.

I did a review of a Mesa Precison Arms Crux rifle with a proof barrel last year. There is a section in there about the Proof barrel as well as some data with various quality factory ammo's.

The biggest thing that I noticed was that the rifle was very tolerant of different ammunition. With the exception of one round that used a 140gr VLD bullet (VLD bullets are very picky about the distance of jump to the lands and this one was evidently not happy with the arrangement in my rifle) everything shot right around .5MOA @100yds. I think this super high toleration to different ammunition is probably due to the harmonic advantages of a carbon wrapped barrel over steel. I have never had a conventional steel barrel show so much tolerance to different rounds before. This has me liking the Proof concept and jonesing for their thicker shank .22lr blanks to put in a Vudoo action. Higher tolerance to various rounds is a big win when dealing with factory ammo. I have noticed no problems associated with the carbon such as POI shifts when the barrel heats up or inferior barrel cooling rates.

Really curious to know what kind of accuracy yall are seeing from the LA magnum calibers in Proof Carbon barrels: 7mm Mag, 28 Nosler, 300 WM, 30 Nosler, etc.

I have one I’ve tested off and in for a year. 1.25-1.5 moa is average. I have 2 loads that will shoot 0.75 MOA. I have 6 or more other bolt guns tuned to shoot under 0.5 MOA and 3 with factory ammo. These are non-magnums. I have a 7mm Mag thst shoots 3/8-1/2” pretty regular.

Barreled action was chambered 30 Nosler by LRI. Barrel was pulled and sent to Proof for inspection. They said it was in spec but high on the volume measurement of bore. Said the chambering looked fine. They replaced the barrel and I sold it. Going back with a steel barrel.

Big Horn TL3 action
Manners PRS-2 with mini-chassis
Bedded
Nightforce ATACR 5-25

All mounting checked twice. Several loads, 5 bullets, 2 powders, all seating depths from jammed to 0.060” jump.

Just wondering what y’all are seeing real world.

I can get three like the first pic sometimes. 4 and 5 go where ever for a 1.25-1.5” group.
Pretty sure it’s a dud barrel after all the favorable forum posts. I am not unfamiliar with shooting or gun building. Never had this much trouble with a custom rifle for accuracy.

Based on Proof’s awesome customer service and product warranty, I may try another in the future; just not now and not for 30 Nosler.

Proof basically told me they don’t chamber in 30 Nosler because during testing the my didn’t get the accuracy they wanted. 28 Nosler was better and selling like hot cakes.
Thanks for the quick replies.

I’ve got two of there carbon barrels the first I built a 6.5 prc and it hammers! Has shot in the .1’s five shot groups,

The second was a proof prefit for a tikka chambered in 308 and I can’t get it to shoot better than a 1” 1/2 , I’ve got to call proof and see what they say about it, as I’ve already ruled out everything else it could be

And how it sits now, switching over to light(er) weight hunting mode, extremely expensive Krylon finish on it-
