I'm fixing to rebarrel my 6 Dasher and bought a Proof SS Competition Contour blank. After getting it, I'm a little nervous that its not going to be a good fit. My gun sits in a MPA Comp folder with a MTU right now and there isn't much space around the barrel. The pig already weighs 25lbs, so the Proof will add even more weight which I'm not sure I want at this point. Does anyone have experience with the Proof CC in a MPA? I'm a bigger guy, 6'7" 230 but this combo will have my gun 27ish pounds and is starting to get heavy! It balances extremely well, but I'm seriously considering trading out this contour for something like a Varmint or Marksman and dropping the weight kit out to get it down to the 17-18 range. Really just looking for opinions from you guys that have went through similar decisions. Thanks!

I'm sorta going through the same decision process right now. Last seasons barrels were Heavy Varmint and MTU at 27" or 27.5" with the MPA weight kit (minus the bag rider). Overall just a bit of a pig of a rifle. I had a Bartlein barrel cert to redeem and decided to order a M24 contour for next season, which should shed about a lb. Not a light rifle by any stretch of the imagination but it is a step away from the truck axle trend.

I did have to clearance my MPA chassis for the heavy varmint barrel. I used some sandpaper on a 1" wooden dowel and sanded back the aluminum until it cleared on all sides. Pretty easy to do, and then just used a black sharpie to cover up the bare metal areas so they weren't so obvious.

I had the same questions earlier in the year. I called MPA and was told if your chassis was manufactured around or after this past December (2018) then there should be clearance. If prior to that it will most likely need opened up.

I think I'm going to list the Proof CC for sale and downsize the contour a little. If I can get it around 17-20lbs the gun is still going to have a significant amount of weight but should be easier to maneuver. Thanks for the replies guys.

I have two Proof SS Comp barrels. A 28" 6mm BR and a 26" 6 Creed. Really happy with both of them.

The Proof Comp contour is designed to be the heaviest profile that will fit an older MPA chassis and still allow use of the NV bridge. In my older model MPA BA Comp chassis, Leupold 5x25 scope, Vector action and Sidewinder brake, my 28" Comp BR comes in at 18lbs.

The rifle balances nicely on a gamechanger and I can walk away from it no problem. Obviously I can add weight kit fore and aft as needed.

Went the Proof Comp route because it doesn't make sense to me to choose take metal out of the barrel and then pay extra to add weight to the chassis! So I say keep it and take out your weight kit- it will put you right where you want to be.

I think 25lbs is a little heavy, I know many people would disagree but I like it around 20 - 21. Heavy enough to be stable but not so much on that it is a hindrance with odd or unstable positions.

At it's current weight fully loaded, I find adjusting the bipod is more of a pain in the ass than it should be. I cant just tilt it one way and then the other to adjust the legs. I'm leaning heavy to pulling the weight kit out and dropping the barrel contour down. The current barrel is a 28" MTU with a SiCo Omega on the end. So it's long and heavy!

Sold the Proof CC. Looking for advice on what would balance out my MPA with the weight kit removed. I'm thinking either Heavy Palma or M24. The marksman contour is interesting to me but I'd like to hear some thoughts on it from guys that have used it.

My current rifle set up:
Rem 700
Bartlein hvy
Burris steel base
G2 Razor
Vortex PMR rings
MPA comp chassis
Atlas PSR bipod

Weight is right at 19 lbs.
I find my self needing to tilt my rifle slightly muzzle down when setting my rifle on my game changer on a barricade.....however, it will sit on the bag. Just makes you a little un easy lol!

this is why I was looking at MTU style profile and led me to the proof CC contour.

hope this helps.
