Proof Research 223 Wylde?

Anyone here running a PR 223 Wylde on their AR15's? Curiously, I haven't found any reviews on the interwebs that include any accuracy testing/target pictures. Considering building a new upper with a carbon barrel but $800+ is a lot of coin for a 223 considering several steel barrels produce .5-.7 moa consistently.

Hopefully someone can provide some "proof" about their barrels! Thanks!

I have shot two PR carbon barrels. Both are finished to perfection. Never put a borescope in a smother finished bore.
Velocity exceeded every 5.56 barrel of the same length I have ever tested by 30-50 FPS. (I have tested several dozen 5.56 barrels)
Accuracy is on par with the best 5.56 AR’s I have tested. Definitely sub MOA to 600 M. Selected 5 shot groups are 1/2 that.

I did notice the other day a tendency to walk the impacts down the target at 100 M when barrel warmed up. This was slight. Impacts all touched but 10 shots suppressed were a full MOA. Going to re test this morning after cleaning.

The much reduced weight requires more attention to holding on my part for best results. Others may do better with less effort.

Huge thanks for posting @rth1800 . I'm in middle of decision for either Kreiger, Proof or Dracos for this rebarrel. Have a Dracos 6.5cm on another gasser that has been between good to very good but has some issues with vertical that I can't seem to tune out of the load. But the heat dissipation/ cooling property of the Dracos is flat out unreal. I am very much leaning towards a proof simply to ensure smooth operation when suppressed.

Please post some pictures of multiple 5-shot+ groups at 100m. Looking forward to seeing your results!

Excited to see these rifles perform. I'm very interested in the proof as I've heard 90% very positive reviews and would be nice to keep a 20" barrel on the lighter side.

No BS, this was the first outing with the barrel, first 5rd group I shot with it after 3 or 4 rounds for what was little to no break in. It still shoots the same if not better, depending on how much attention was paid while reloading. Groups now are produced with a Nosler 77gr, 42.8gr of XBR 8208, CCI 41's and br4's stretched out as long as the mag with accept them.

Can you really fit 42.8 grains of XBR 8208 in a .223 case?

I'm looking forward to breaking in my new Proof barrel. It's not an AR barrel but just holding it, the weight and feel are pretty remarkable. Looking down the bore is as pretty as any I've seen too.

Mine is a 28" Savage pre-fit in 6.5 Creedmoor. I'm hoping I will find a safe node somewhere around 2,800-2,850 fps with the Hornady 147 grain ELD-M.

I want to see if I can preserve the throat a bit with HBN coated bullets and hopefully get a nice long accuracy life.

I don't think I would have bought the barrel if I wasn't trying to save weight but I think the price is pretty justified.

I'm not sure if rapid fire is a great idea for a carbon wrapped barrel so I plan to avoid it. An AR might not have that in the plans. Shooting it out prematurely would be my one fear but I can't tell you what it would take to do that.

Did you mean 24.8gr xbr? 42gr is *just a wee bit* hot (nearly double the max charge actually).

Even 24.8g 8208 is very hot for an AR. Most people find their 75/77gr load in the 23-24g range. My load is 23.4g with 77smk st 2800 out of a 20" Kreiger.

Agreed, I've run 22-25 and found pressure/swiping around 24.5-25 depending on case. My loads with XBR are near 24 with 69gr SMK/TMK.

Only asked so someone didn't try sending a full compressed xbr load (read: gun grenade).

I’ve got a 16” and an 18” of my own. I’ve built up about a dozen for customers in lengths 14.5” to 18”. All have proven to be excellent shooters in the .4 - .6 MOA range with factory ASYM 77 SMK with the first groups on paper.

As mentioned previously, these are beautifully made barrels, with incredibly turned out chambers and throats. I can only assume these are honed, since there are zero tool marks.

You won't go back to mid gas 16" barrels once you try intermediate.

Shit I completely spaced it I use 8208 in my .308 load. My 77gr .223 is load was using 24.8gr of Ramshot Tac. Sorry for the confusion.

Have you re-tested this or has anyone else verified the poi shift? I was thinking of doing an 18" with this barrel to cut down on weight but not if there is a noticeable poi shift when the barrel heats up.

Agreed on the hold with a lighter gun requiring much more attention!

I've noticed no problem with a POI shift.
