Anyone running a proof barrel specifically with a magnified optic? I was told by a reliable source that after shooting a few rds the mirage coming off the barrel is more pronounced than just a plain old steel barrel. I was thinking of trying one on a lighter weight build for medium ranges with a 10x but would rather not waste the money if mirage becomes an issue after just a few rds.

I have a 12.5" Proof barrel (300BO) built out using Hodge Defense ALLi upper and lower receiver, T2 with a 6X Magnifier, and Surefire SPS300 suppressor. I built it to use as a hunting rig and treat it like a recce rifle so I don't shoot it fast and not a lot of volume at any given time. Runs beautifully, solid accuracy, lightweight as hell, and I have not noticed any issues with heat at this point.

I have a PR .223 AR I use quite a bit. Never noticed excessive mirage. My limited group shooting has been excellent. Last range trip yielded two 5 shot groups at 400 meters both sub 2.5”.
I’m doing a lot of Varmint hunting with it. First calm day I will get it out to 600M.
It’s s also a very fast barrel. So far, 300 rds in I like it.

I have a proof cf on every rifle i own, since weight is one of my key criteria as i get old.

They all shoot great. Only one bolt gun though.

That said just be careful when you attach your muzzle device. Don’t exceed the recommended torque and don’t use a locking compound if you need to take it off. Already fucked that up once and expensively.

Running four Proof CFW barrels with a 5th in progress on my personal guns. I'm a believer. Light weight. Amazing accuracy. Zero problems.

Love the 2nd one down. If you get a chance let me know what the overall length is exactly the way it sits in the picture.

I'm a believer as well. My wifes preceision rifle sports a Proof 6 Creedmoor barrel and we have never noticed a heat mirrage off her barrel. I'm running 3 Proof barrels on hunting rifles and giving some real consideration to a Proof gas gun barrel for my JP LPR-07.

About to build 3. Does Proof have a torque spec for muzzle devices or are you saying follow the muzzle devices manufacturers’ recommendations?

Thanks for the heads-up!!
