Having been a newspaper editor for a number of years, and a technical writer for many more, I completely understand how these typos happen. We read what we think we're seeing.
I always twitch a bit when I see a 48-point headline with blatant typos, or typos, usually in bold type, in flyers being mailed to a million customers.
I won't even go into texting messages.

Our equivalent would be a Brownells/Cabelas webpage with a header ad for the Brady Campaign or Moms Demand Action... Yeah that would be super awkward.
