Gunsmithing Proper method to attach picatinny rail to stock

Guys, just got my new rifle from the 'smith and he did not put a picatinny rail in place of the sling swivel stud as I requeted. I don't have time to ship back and forth as I am headed down to RO in a week and a half and I need to break in the rifle, develop loads etc.

I'm pretty handy, but I need some advice on the proper method for attaching a rail to a McMillan A4. e.g. sockets and screws, epoxy and screws, etc.

im assuming its for an Atlas bipod? If so take your pic rail and get some Gorilla wood glue and some wood screws. Put the rail on your stock where you want it, hold it down with electrical tape. Take a 3/8 drill bit and drill 2 pilot holes where the screws are going to sit in the rail. Then put some wood glue on your screw threads and screw them into the stock. Let the glue set up for about 30-45 minutes and you are good. Same way i did mine after Jacob told me thats what he did. Or pm 427Cobra on here, he did a different method of the same thing

3/8 sounds like a pretty big bit, but I get the jist of it. Glue it and screw it. Thanks for taking the time to post. I appreciate your advice.

no problem, yeah that bit was a bit big, i cant remember which one i used. But yeah glue and screw is the jist of it

BTW, Harris versus Atlas versus Parker Hale versus VersaPod?

If money was not the object, which would you choose?

I'm looking at the Atlas with cleat feet.

Get some 10/32 "Tee-Nuts" like Mcmillan uses on sling swivel studs. Counter sink the tee-nut heads just below the barrel channel. Some folks would make up a set of pillars glue & in with epoxy. Dont want wood screws in my pic rail........

wood screws work just fine, bout as stable and sturdy as you can get it

Wow. What a wonk I am for not looking hard enough on the hide. I searched my brains out on Google and nada. Forget Google, the hide is Da BOMB.

Thanks for the link. Now if I can just find the t-nuts.....

However I may just gorilla glue and then wait for them to fail. I can always go back and counterbore and add nuts
