I've been lucky enough to have 3 of their rifles now. My past experiences with PCR were great. From start to finish I knew what to expect. That said when things go good it's easy to be happy. It's what happens when things don't go well that really show the kind of shop you are dealing with.
I bought a 243Win R700 from Walmart and disnabout as much shooting as I wanted while I gathered parts for what I really wanted. I wasn't really motivated so I took my time and found stuff here and there. Eventually it was time for the build. I took all my stuff over and was given an time frame, just a few weeks....perfect! A few days later I get a call my bolt is a problem after trueing the bolt and action. Not a huge deal, it happens, something about timing. PCR sends my bolt out and the waiting game gets a little longer. Deadline for bolt work comes and goes, not PCR's fault but they are keeping me in the loop. They feel bad but it's really not their fault. Few more weeks pass, I get a call, the bolt is back. Keith builds my rifle in one afternoon. I'm feeling excited. It's a 243AI now.
I go on my merry way and start to develop my load. I'm doing everything I think is right but I can't get this rifle to shoot. I'm getting awesome chrono numbers but it won't shoot. I've never had anything like this happen. Finally ready to give up I call PCR and tell them about my troubles. Without hesitation they tell me something has to be wrong w the rifle and just bring it in for a once over. I agree to take it back and I feel really shitty about the whole ordeal.
I talk to Brad and Keith at length and decide I'll change some things and then if that doesn't work I'll bring it in. Well I changed my powder and some awesome stuff happened. It went from a 2-3" rifle at 100 to a sub 1/2 MOA rifle at 100. Then I shot it out to 200, 300 and 500 (range max) all with amazing results.
I went from frustrated and confused to very happy w this rifle in just one range trip. I know I'm still new to reloading. Maybe I've just gotten really lucky developing loads. I didn't know you could have awesome chrono data and shoot like shit. Nor did I know you could change powder and it would change EVERYTHING.
PCR was ready to inspect the rifle and tear it down and build up a new barrel if they couldn't get it to shoot either. They took the time to educate me instead of telling me to figure it out in my own. I really like The guys at PCR, they are honest and really do care about the rifles they build. In fact they called to follow up on me the same day I finally found a load that worked.
I cant say enough nice things about PCR. If you are looking for a great builder with amazing service and reasonable build times these guys are worth looking into.
