I apologize if this is in the wrong place....There is a PRS range about 4 miles from my house in Ralston Oklahoma that goes out to 1250 yards I believe. I have shot a few benchrest matches it just didn't do it for me....I watched part of a PRS match I think it was called the heat stroke or something close to that...Nicest people I've ever met...I have been looking at the Optika6 also the NikonFX1000 and everything in between....Do I save just a little more for a Gen 1 Razor...This is a lot of money in my world any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

You are very lucky to live that close to a such great range )

Nikon is budget-friendly and a good balance between quality, functionality, and cost. Try to get a Razor GenII with MRAD reticle. There are scopes that sell around 1K in the market. And you will get a service forever from Vortex. Gen I is also a great scope. A lot of folks winning matches with it.

Thank you brother for the reply....The range is pretty nice I rode around it with the owner helped him paint some targets pick up limbs and stuff...He let me get behind his rifle needless to say it was nice....He made the 1200+ yard shots look like nothing....He even offered to let me keep his extra Kestrel meter to learn to use one...never met the guy before that.

The Athlon scopes are a pretty good entry point for a PRS shooter. They have quality reticles with trees for holdover stages and the scopes themselves are solid. I would recommend either the Ares ETR or the Cronus BTR, but honestly I'd say go with the Ares ETR (the cheaper scope) because it has updated and better turrets with still excellent glass quality. It won't break the bank but it's everything you could ever need/want in a scope for PRS.

Shannon, you must be talking about Rick. Good dude. Shot several club matches with him. And he does indeed have a great setup down there. Once you get equipped you should join OPPS and come out to the club matches.

Yes Sir its Rick what a great man.....I was going to ask him or anyone if I could RO for a match or two if that would be best to watch and learn a little....I need to get over there and talk to him again. Ill get on the OPPS and join up this evening and join up....Im nervous and haven't even loaded a single round yet

No need to be nervous. There’s always a few new guys at each match. Just come out and shoot. It will be extremely humbling the first time but you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. You’ll see all kinds of equipment and just about everyone will let you use anything you might need.

If you are able to get on ExpertVoice, you will have a lot of opportunities at some great discounts on optics, to include Vortex. I got my first gen Razor HD at over 40% off of the retail price.

I just finished my first year, shooting prs and prs style matches. Im from Ponca city. I never knew there was a range in Ralston. Do you know the name of it? I Started with a savage predator hunter 10 243 and a Vortex Pst Gen2. I wouldn't start with anything less. I went with moa now realize Mil can be very useful (forget measuring in inches it doesnt matter). I would buy A Pst Gen2 in mil and nothing less. You can pick them up for 600 to 650. Invest in good rings. Your scope will get abused if you take advantage of some shooting positions. Feel free to pm me ill give you my phone number and we can talk.

Lonnie, it’s private land in Ralston. Not a public range. If you’re in Ponca you need to check out OPPS. We usually have 2 matches a year in Shidler. The others are spread across the state

tnc.....Sir I shot a couple matches over in Shidler a long time ago maybe 5 years ago it was a benchrest informal type shoot....If I remember correctly I drove through a creek bottom and the range is on a farm....really nice setup....Sir do you still shoot there...

I think one is called the Heat Stroke Open or something close to that.....it wasn't too far away from here Ive seen it on youtube....I went for a couple hours...Met some guys shooting over in Ralston that invited us to that event...Very humbling experience to say the least watching them shoot

If you are considering a Black x1000 then just save a couple hundred more and get a Vortex Razor HD gen 2 4.5-27x56mm.
They can be easily found for 1300-1400 used right now and is a stellar scope. Easily the most common scope seen in PRS matches.
Yes there is better glass out there but it is an absolute tank and has every feature you'd need. For the price you can get it for i don't think there's a better value out there. Not to mention the unconditional lifetime warranty.
I guarantee you'd never be held back in a match because of glass with that scope. No matter your skill.
