Hello all,

im looking for some advice. I have waited it out for the past few months collecting info and the time is coming where i am drawing a line and putting the money out.

Im looking for a scope that will allow me to hunt at ranges 100-500 yards, and target shoot from 100-800 yards. My price range is limited and cant go any higher then the price of these scopes. It will be put on a lighter weight 300. wsm and with the PST the gun will weigh about 8-8.5 lbs and with the zeiss it will weigh closer to 7.5-8 lbs. Not much of a difference. I understand the Glass is better on the zeiss but the feature and customer service on the pst are unbeatable.

If you had to choose either the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44mm with 1" tube or the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50mm for a long range on targets and game up too 500 yards with practice of course which would you rather. Because of the weight being so similar it doesn't matter to me on which i get cause of weight even though its a carry around hunting/target gun.

Re: PST vs Conquest

Its either or. What do you want, better glass or FFP? Either company will take care of you if something happens to the scope. I'd probably would side more towards the PST for the better reticle and the FFP option but its a personal thing.

I know you mentioned you can't go any higher than the prices of these scopes but for an extra $150 over the PST the new SSHD is a better option than either.

Re: PST vs Conquest

All but 1 of my hunting rifles wears a Zeiss Conquest. Another of my shooting buddies is the same way. I really don't think you will go wrong either way, but I just seem to lean towards the Zeiss. For a 1 inch tube, you should be able to get all of the adjustment that you will need for a 300 WSM. You might want to look at the sample list over at SWFA. The aforementioned shooting buddy just picked up a Conquest from there that I swear looked brand new except for an ever so faint ring mark on the bottom. Saved him $200.

I looked at a Meopta Meopro 3x9x42 it seems like excellent glass and is the same price as the Conquest. i am still researching however. seems this scope is in the lead as far as glass quality goes!

Re: PST vs Conquest

I had a Zeiss Conquest and I have to say it had fine glass on it. The only issue I had with it was it had limited MOA adjustments. I think I had about 46 MOA total travel and once zeroed I lost almost half of that. Some of that can be cured by adding a 20MOA base but not sure if you can get to 1K with it. I would honestly look at the PST as more of a scope that you are looking for. It will have all that you need to get the job done plus it is FFP and the reticle and adjustments will be the same - as in mil/mil or MOA/MOA.

Listen to this guy.... My buddy had the zeis also and it was mounted on his rem700 (308) and his scope ran out of adjustment at 600yds using a 0moa base. This made for an unpleasant trip while we all made it to 1k while he kicked up sand and watched us shoot past 600yds

Re: PST vs Conquest

i thinking im going the direction of the PST if i can get my hands on one. The reason i say this is cause of everything it offers. Glass in comparison to the VX-3 from what i read, which is decent glass for hunting purposes (not zeiss but still good), way more moa, allows me to do the long range shots as well as close up, Moa/moa reticle/turrets, turrets are awesome!!

I think i will be going the direction of the PST and i might grab the conquest for my 7mm and try it that way!
