Gunsmithing PT&G bolt in 700 LA

Been getting parts together for a new build for a little bit. Have a rem 700 LA that was a brand new 30/06. Got rid of stock bolt and got barrel removed and got a PT&G straight handle bolt with mag bolt face and m16 extractor. Getting ready to send it somewhere to get it trued but I put bolt in action and its a great fit but it takes some excessive force to close bolt. Is this a problem with bolt or something that will be fixed when getting action trued? Never encountered that before. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not uncommon and don't force it. When your smith trues your receiver lugs, the bolt should cam over and close.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to make sure so I didn't send the smith a pile of shit lol. Thank u very much for your time.

The internal lug spacing is causing the hard closure. Your smith should true these (.002) is standard removal of material. Facing action, etc, etc. Then he can get the dimensions for building your rifle. You will be fine.

Not necessarily... I just had one I thought that was the problem, glad I trusted my measurements though and didn't machine the lugs. It was where they mill perpendicular to the bolt at the extraction cam the tool was obviously junk and didn't cut a square edge, this caused the symptoms you are having, but this one would not close at all.

Check that area and make sure it doesn't look like this before you have your smith remove material from lugs.
