Is there a differenxe between the 5” vs 8” variants of the PTR. Specifically
1) different furniture optionality,
2) Significantly greater range w/ 8” vs 5”
3) Functionality issues of one va another after putting on a suppressor
leaning toward the shortly 5” but want to make sure you dont run into diminishing returns but going too short with the Barrel.
Maneuverability mostly. Those two models are clones of the MP5 and MP5K basically. I've never really got into the difference ballistically between the two. I figured with it being 9mm and considering the platforms that they would both be used in close quarters where the velocity difference would be negligible.
I used to be quite an HK roller locked fan. I still am I just streamlined my guns from AK's, HK's, etc. to nothing but AR's and bolt guns. I built mine though, I would buy flats and bend them, press and pin the barrels, tig weld the trunnions and cocking tubes, etc.
My favorite build was a reverse stretch. Basically a MP5K short barrel and cocking tube on a standard MP5 receiver. The shorter MP5K came originally with a receiver that was shortened in the rear to help shave length in the original design. This limited your stock choices to only MP5K specific stocks. The reverse stretch gave you a standard receiver so you could have a larger selection of stocks, A3, etc.
So be aware, if you go with the shorter 9KT then you will only be able to use MP5K stocks/braces. The 9CT allows you to run pretty much any MP5 stock, folding, sliding fixed, etc.
I have since gotten out of HK roller locked. I miss them, they were great guns for the time I had them. Mine weren't PTR but I have owned a PTR91 and a PTR32 in 308 and 7.62x39 respectively. They were both quality builds and ran perfectly for the time I had them, about 10yrs.
