So i have read a lot of different things about what is needed to purchase a sound suppressor in Va. Everything i have read is just confusing me more and more. Some things say you have to have a class 3 or class 1 license and others say you dont and just have to pay the $200 tax stamp.

Can someone who has purchased a suppressor in Va please explain, if you dont mind, what is involved and if you have to have a class 3 license to purchase and own one.

thank you

You just go through a dealer and pay a one time Tax of $200.

Re: purchasing a suppressor Va

what i have gone through says either you have to have a class 3 license or do a form 4 and a tax stamp, but i was not sure if you have to have a class 3 license(which i prefer not have a class 3, i really dont want to open my door to the feds, lol).

Re: purchasing a suppressor Va

Fill out ATF form 4, attach fingerprint cards and passport photo, get signature from chief law enforcement official, (Richmond police chief for me.. I guess you would go to the Chesterfield chief.) then attach $200 check or money order for the tax stamp, and send everything to the ATF and wait. And wait some more.

That's the general way things are done for an individual to file. A trust would remove some of those requirements and make it a little more simple.

Re: purchasing a suppressor Va

Make trust with Quicker or a lawyer. Fill out form 4. send form 4 and $200 to ATF. Wait for 2-8 months. Get new can.

Simple really.
