I was at the range for work today. Red Rio Aircraft/Ground range. When helicoptors are done shooting they rip the end of the linked ammo and toss it. Well I found about 200 lnked 7.62 and it had purple tip ammo. it was 1 purple tip to 10 ball rounds. I am confused. Is it incendiary? API? APIT?

Re: Purple Tip 7.62?

M276 NATO 7.62mm ball/dim tracer cartridge: Designed to be used with night vision devices, the M276 dim tracer is a reduced visibility alternative to the standard, high visibility M62 tracer. The M276 can be identified by its purple painted tip.

Found that looking around the internet.

Re: Purple Tip 7.62?

Ya it is pretty rough. The rounds are trash so I am free to pick them up and take them home. We go there once a month. I keep my self well supplied with .50, 7.62, and 5.56. I have the students to a police walk of whatever area we are in and give me the rounds. Its nice.

Re: Purple Tip 7.62?

Yeap, this is correct, and sometimes the "purple" is much lighter in color than the picture . You might find some older "Dim Tracer" with a "green tip and white band lower" as well, that was in the early 90's.

Sweep it up and send it to me, I will take any/all of it. Let me know how much it costs to ship and I"ll send you some money for your trouble.

5.56 and 7.62 is most of what gets shot, but the 50 brass is useful for my dad's latest project. He'd appreciate it.
