Hello guys,
I know blemishes are expected, but what the heck is happening here with the chicken wire? The tube was great when I first got it. Now there are blemishes and chicken wire. Never dropped it. No laser damage. It’s probably my f-up somehow. For tactical applications the device is still great, but the blems give me deep sorrow when taking video of celestial objects. It’s on a 10 year warranty. Do tubes degrade over time?

It’s a:

PHOTONIS PVS-14 AUTOGATED 4G WHITE PHOSPHOR ECHO SPEC TUBE “ONYX” P-45 NIGHT VISION MONOCULAR I

Photo taken in a dark closet, drywall.

The ‘chicken wire’ effect is pretty normal when the gain is high and you look at a plain white wall. The dark spots seem out of focus, which implies they are debris rather than tube damage. It possible it’s just how you took the photo. It may need a clean and purge. Hard to tell from that photo. I’d contact the supplier and have them look,at it. If it’s a warranty repair they need it back anyway.

Does it have manual gain and you have it all the way up?

Also is there a ton of ambient light around?

The only time I see the chickenwire is when there is a lot of high power or ambient light.
The gain is up, but it was a very very dark closet. I’ve seen the chicken wire while briefly looking at the moon or an infrared security camera now it’s constant. Tangent: I t’s also not surprising that my iPhone is constantly scanning me with the infrared flash.

Make sure the daylight cover and any other filters, the demist shield, etc. is off. That will jack up the view.
Chicken wire look is common in high light as others have mentioned.

You mentioned it was an Echo with 10 year warranty- if it's from us (JRH Enterprises) shoot me a direct email after you check to make sure no filters are on and we will get you squared away asap.

No problem. Just not a lot of places offer 10 year on the Echos so I figured it might have been us.

Good luck.
