I am ready to purchase a PVS-22 or a PVS-24. I understand the PVS-24 is designed for an ACOG and has lower light gathering capability than the PVS-22 without supplemental illunination.
The pices are comarable. What about quality of each? I need advice to help make a decision. Please help!

Re: PVS-22 VS PVS-24

The PVS-24 was made for the SOCOM BLK 50 award that was optimized for 4x ACOG's and Elcan Specter DR's. It has a 56mm objective compared to the 68mm with the 22. Realistic sweet spot for the PVS-22 is in the 8x - 10x range in dark conditions in rural settings. We find with the PVS-24, 4-6x is the sweet spot using the same day scope in dark conditions. These sweet spots are also taken into consideration with folks using a high end optic such as a S&B, KnightForce, etc.

The PVS-22 also has FLIR's (Former OSTI) Patented shock mitigation system that works incredibly well for big boomer recoil with 338's, and higher. We've never had a lick of issue with any recoil related tube issues. The PVS-27 also has this patented system.

All in all, the PVS-22 seems to be the best bang for the big bucks for clip-ons. Hope this helps.

Re: PVS-22 VS PVS-24

I have played with both. I like how on the 24, when you turn it on, it's on low gain, not like a 22 where it starts on high. The focus is much easier to use too with the lever instead of the bullet that you have to roll on the 22. Might not seem like a big deal, but do it at night. And one of the biggest selling points of the 24 is that it uses a composite body, cutting down the weight.

Having said all that, I have a PVS-22 and really don't feel the need to upgrade to the 24.

+1 on power up gain level, focus lever( especially with winter gloves), and lighter weight!
L3 CNVD M2124 is the way to go. Never had a tube issue with them.
