I haven’t posted pictures in so long I thought we still needed a 3rd party host. I will try the icon first. Thanks man.
Using third party host (if everyone did) could, in theory reduce Hide costs ... and hence contribute to helping Hide exist. And enable sharing on other sites as well.

Well, as soon as I find the only camera I have that fits on the scope mount, I will get a bunch of pictures and throw them up here. I will also start another thru the tube thread as Shifty6br recommended. I lent it to my son for summer camp a while back, so who knows where’s its at now. Lol. It’s not easy finding a camera that lines up correctly on the mount. I had to explain to the guy at the store that it mounted on a “spotting scope for watching birds” lol. He was a birder and if I explained that I actually wanted it on my rifles so I could record thru the scope videos of my kids hunts, I don’t think he would have been so inclined to open ALL the boxes so we could try camera after camera till we found one where the lense would line up correctly behind the scope while still threading on to the mount.
Well, its a lot harder to take pictures of night vision than i previously thought. My camera makes things look like complete crap.
This was taken with overcast skies, no external illumination. The building is at 200 yards. Its completely crystal clear to my eyes. Unfortunately i am using a small point and shoot that will not allow me to shoot in manual or have any controls other than turning the flash on or off. I lent my Canon 5DMKII to a friend and i will try and get it back this week so i can get some better pictures. That will be interesting in its own right. I almost hate to post these pictures as it does not do the PVS 30 any justice at all. But here it is anyways.
I actually have printed off an eye chart and i was planning on taking my 30 down to my range along with a number of scopes and try to see what i can resolve with different glass. I will take the NF 5.5-22x56, Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27, Razor Gen II 1-6, Bushnell Elite HDMR 3.5-21, and maybe some other stuff. It will be interesting to see if i can get it to resolve better with different glass, or if i will be able to use higher magnification with different scopes. Im not sure how much difference their will be seeing how all of them will be looking thru the PVS 30, But we are going to find out!
For now, here is a horrible teaser.
If anyone has any pointers on the best way to take pictures thru night vision, let me know. I plan on playing with the manual setting to get it as close to what my eye actually sees, but if you guys have some tips, please feel free to pass them along.

As to pic thru NV ... you're ahead of me ... my attempts with handheld phone came are an order of magnititude worse than yours. What phone cam mount are you using? I'd like to try one.
I think part of my problem is I need to move the auto-center (or whatever its called) to the center of the scope image ... and trying to hold the phone cam steady in 3 - dimensions take up 2 hands already ... so no 3rd hand to help the camera adjust to the right image center ... so the image center is overlapping with image outside the scope and that is hurting the result.
My theory anyway.

Good to know. I can’t remember who makes it. I think I picked it up on amazon. I first got it so I could see where my daughter was shooting when taking her hog hunting, and it allowed me to record my kids hunts. I didn’t even think about it till later, but it also lets me mount my PVS 14 behind a scope if I wanted to use it for that.
This is the setup I’m using currently to take pictures. I think what I’m going to need to do is set up the rifle with the 30, then set up my 5DMKII on a tripod a few feet behind it (because of focus distance), then once everything is lined up perfectly, try to take the pictures that way. The current camera I’m using is inducing it’s own low light / high iso noise into the pictures and making it a lot grainier than it actually is. I’m going to try and shoot at iso 100, f 1.4-2.8 and see how well it turns out.

I have a ELIR 3 coming soon that I just purchased from Surgeon Shooter. I will also get some comparisons up between that and the Mawl. I know they are designed for 2 different purposes, but I’m curious to see how they stack up.
I can attest the ELIR-3 has no problem supporting shots out to 500yds with the PVS-30 or the SIMRAD 253. I have not tried it farther out. But the power looks pretty strong at 500yds ... so I would predict 600yds would be possible. I will try to remember to test this tonight ... planning out going out with SIMRAD again tonight.
Well just a quick note. So far I have been very pleased with my experience with surgeonshooter. He has been very impressive. I placed the order with him at 10:47 yesterday. I received a fedex link at 12:59. So just a few minutes past an hours time and I already had a tracking number. Then, just a little while later I received a notification on my phone that the unit was shipped and in route. That was yesterday... TODAY, fedex attempted delivery at 12:15 and unfortunately I wasn’t home. So in less than 26 hours, I placed the order, the unit was shipped, and at my front door! Very well done Jay! I should be home tomorrow when they try to deliver again and I hope to get out tomorrow night and try and get some more pictures. When I do, I will place a few here, but look for a new thread for “thru the tube, PVS 30”! I just really hope that with a better camera set up, that I will be able to pull off much better pictures. Also, the NF ATACR F1 is scheduled for delivery on Friday, so I will go ahead and start the other thread and just keep adding to it as I have time for different optics.
Well, just my luck. Fedex was just here to make the delivery. I was about to tell the driver of the bright yellow Penske truck that he was lost when I realized it was Fedex. After teasing him about how horrible it must be to finally be driving a truck with a radio and air conditioning, he got to digging around the back. Turns out when his truck broke down that they didn’t get all the packages transferred over to the new rental truck. So, it looks like I will have to wait at least one more day. Such is life sometimes.
Fedex found the package and came back and delivered it yesterday. I had so much fun playing last night that I didn’t take any pictures. I’m hoping to get a few tonight even if it’s just proof of concept photos for how I hope to make things work. Just a few notes on the Luna. I have mixed feelings about it so far. I really do like it and it seams to have plenty of power. However, in a different thread someone asked if it could be zoomed all the way in and used like an IR laser instead of a laser ILLUMINATOR. I would say absolutely NOT. On mine, the head of the focus wobbles around and I’m not sre if I like that in practice or not. I was thinking that I was going to set the laser up on the rifle, measure the offset to the bore, and then “zero” the laser to be parallel at all distances. The first problem I ran into was that the unit was loose on the clamping rail it’s attached to. Not the rifle rail, but the Luna’s built in clamp. I took it back inside to tighten down the screws and immediately found out that the screws are soft, because I ended up almost shipping out the screw heads to try and get them to tighten, and it’s still loose. I remounted the unit and went back out. Now it’s aimed in the bottom right of my reticle with the magnification set at 3.5x. I reached up to adjust it and it just moves around with little pressure. I find this to be very annoying, but honestly works in practical use. Once I zoom in with my scope, and then zoom in with the elir to match the same field of view, when it’s off center, I just wiggle the mount till it’s lined up. This isn’t what I would prefer and I’m sure that’s not what your suppose to do, but until I can get the mount tight without stripping out the screws, that is what I have to do. With the elir turned up to max I am able to run all the way up to 21x so far with the PVS 30 gain set about 1/2-2/3 gain. I was able to use it to see out to 1,199 yards. I absolutely would not be able to shoot that far. I will have to try and get some photos of what I’m experiencing, but for me to be able to get enough IR energy down there by focusing the lense down that tight, it’s too concentrated in the middle of the glass and almost makes it look more like a solid laser. I did a lot of playing around with it last night and between the ELIR power knob, IR focus ring, PVS 30 gain knob, PVS 30 focus ring, and power ring on the scope, it’s definately not something that is quick to set up and you better get some muscle memory under your belt. I may play around with the elir mount and see if I can get it to tighten up correctly and then add some blue locktite.
Modified factory Gen 2 handguard. I filed down the tabs from a mlok section, then drilled and tapped the hand guard to accept the rail.
