PWS MK107 Diablo

All:

I just recieved a PWS MK107 upper to use at work. This rifle will be used as a demonstration tool for replacement for the MP-5 sub gun that a lot of agencies are currently still using.

I really look forward to testing this short barreled rifle, and seeing what it can and can not do.

I'm currently waiting on NFA paperwork for a Brevis Delta P supressor to run on this MK107. That will take some time, for the NFA paperwork is backed up on "cans" right now. Once I get the stamp, I will pick up the supressor and install it on the Diablo, and run it in that configuration.

This rifle will be used as a PDW for VIP Protection type classes, and entry type scenarios. I am curious as to the velocity out of the 7.5" barrel, and what it does against various barriers / targets.

So, stay tuned. I have to get a sight system for it, and then get some rounds under it. This thread may take a while to get moving, but it will follow in the footsteps of my MK114 / MK214 threads.

If any of you are using the PWS MK107, please feel free to add thoughts, observations, information, etc...

I really wish I had the MK107 in 7.62x39 but, I already have a registered SBR in 5.56 and tons of ammo. Plus, most agencies that I train with, are all equipped with 5.56 so... this will be the most realistic approach.

It is, what it is. This is an ULTRA Short Barreled Rifle... 7.5" barrel, long stroke piston, with PWS reliability. The barrel is a 1:8 Bergara just like the other PWS rifles. I'm also anxious to test the CQB Muzzle Device in direct comparrison to the Noveske PIG that is on my 10.5 Noveske.

To say that I am excited about this Diablo is a huge understatement. You really have to hold one to feel just how TINY the thing is.

Now, my expectations.

Reliability. This rifle has to run reliably, every time. Just like my other PWS rifles, I have no reservations about trusting this thing right out of the box.

Accuracy. I am holding this rifle to reasonable expectations... 100 yards and in. I will treat this as it is meant to be treated. Like an MP-5 replacement. It's not a Sub MOA 1000 yard AR, nor will I expect it to be. It's a short, close in, PDW to be used in entry scenarios and vehicle type deployments.

The MK107 fills a niche that needs to be filled. Now... to see if it will pass the tests. I have no doubt that it will... as long as I can get the velocity to elicit controlled, reliable expansion at realistic distances, then I will say it's good to go.

But, one can not escape just how COOL this little rifle is.

Stay tuned everyone. It will take a bit to start collecting data... so as stated, I urge anyone that has a MK107 to input their own experiencs.

I just mounted a Leupold Tactical Prismatic sight on the Diablo upper... I've had this sight for a while now, just never used it. Gonna give it a go I think. The reticle is a bit damaged... so, I may have to send it back to Leupold to see if they can fix it.

So far, I like it. Have not shot it live yet, just dry fire drills.

I'm interested in TB on these. Really interested in the 7.62x39 version but I figure it will be better then whatever you get outta the 5.56 so keeping my fingers crossed for good TB outta the 5.56.

OMT,

I too am interested in the TB of various ammo. I already know the Diablo runs flawlessly, and without any issues. It's the performance of the short barrel that I have my eyes on... if they are lethal, at reasonable ranges, then this is the cat's meow. If not, then it's just a cool toy...

We shall see. I'm just sitting here looking at it, drooling. It really is TINY!!!

Testing will begin this weekend. I have the Leupold Prismatic sight on the MK107, will go get it sighted in. I have some accuracy testing to do first hand, then on to barrier testing and chronographing.

To say that I am excited about his little thing, is a HUGE understatement.

Here is a size comparison with my MK114... I don't have the bolt carrier in the Diablo in this picture. I'm getting ready to paint the MK107 Upper.

It's tiny!

I will add a Magpul VFG up front, to keep my little fingers where they need to be.

Can't wait to shoot it.

I have not forgotten about this thread... have not done ANY live fire testing. However, I will be running it in the shoot house this week using UTM rounds. Force on force... fun times!!!

I got a chance to run the MK107 in some CQB training today... corner fed rooms, linear danger areas, stairwells, and the thing is amazing. It ran UTM like it was made for it...

The Brevis Delta P suppressor is in the pipe, so stand by... I really love the way this little thing balances and points. More to follow...

DB... I actually painted it in exactly five minutes out at our MOUT site...

I'm actually getting ready to start my own blog... to do reviews, training videos, and such... I will be doing a detailed "how to Krylon your gun and not look like a tool doing it"... for people that don't need Gucci-flage and really need to break up the outline... LOL

I'm in North Florida... and even though we have lots of green, I find in my A/O, this pattern really blends the best. One can argue, does a MK107 need to be painted? Well... no. But, all of my rifles are done in this exact manner so they all look alike.

On a lighter note, I am SO EXCITED to get Byron's "can" and run that Brevis Delta P on this little jewel.

ATF approved the transfer, Brevis Delta P is in bound. So far, the MK107 is doing very well in the entry weapon arena. I did some tests on the range and I was very pleased with the capability it has using 60 Grain TAP.

Due to the nature of these tests, I will not post them in open forum. Let's just say, that it worked well against certain intermediate barriers... at usable distances. This will be tested as well with the suppressor attached. I'm awaiting some 64 grain Speer Gold Dot to do some windshield testing with, and will get that underway soon.

This thing is now my favorite Room Broom.

I hear ya Brother. I had an MP5 for a long while. Great Sub Gun, but this thing is amazing. It does well against soft barriers... if you get my drift.

Can't wait to get the Gold Dot ammo in. Also, to do a Db test with the suppressor from confined space.

This thing runs, and runs, and runs... shoots very softly too. Typical PWS fashion.

As I move forward with testing on this MK107 Platform, I am simply amazed at how well this rifle runs.

Getting in and out of vehicles is where this weapon really shines. It is SO crazy small, but packs a full power punch.

The MK107 is the design platform for ALL of the other PWS Rifles. It is the original.

This thing has eaten every round I have put in it... runs flawlessly, and is every bit as accurate as any of my other AR rifles. I'm so tempted to mount my 1.8-10 USO SN3 on this thing, to see what kind of groups it will produce at 50 and 100 yards.

All I can say is, I can not WAIT to get the Brevis Suppressor on it, and run the snot out of it.

I've been running the mk107 in 7.62x39. I had an AAC 51T full brake installed to accept the AAC 762SD. I haven't had the rifle for too long and probably have about 1000 rounds through it, mostly suppressed. I can't really comment on accuracy since I have not mounted an optic yet. But as far as reliability, I have had zero malfunctions shooting either suppressed or unsuppressed. The weapon cycles flawlessly with the suppressor. With the full brake, the rifle is extremely loud and shoots small fireballs out the side of the brake, but is very controllable. With the suppressor on, the weapon is scary quiet. Haven't had a chance to fire subsonic ammo yet, but look forward to it. The only complaint that I have so far is that the top front section of rail, that the front buis sits on, extends far enough forward to make taking off the suppressor a chore. It interferes with pressing the quick detach lever on the suppressor.

I've been seriously considering one of these... If you could do an accuracy eval, even with no optics but preferably with, it would be greatly appreciated!

I'll see what I can do. I'm leaving the country for a couple months and probably won't have an optic until I get back. One of the guys at my gun shop runs one and was getting 1 moa at 100. He showed me a few targets. He said he was extremely surprised by the accuracy of these little rifles.

Greetings to you and everyone on this thread/forum... I am going to try not to make this long story longer so here we go. I just received the two stamps for my MK107 7.62 Diablo and AAC-762SD. Right after I sent my paperwork in early October of last year I started to find out as much as I could about the weapon/can that I had just purchased since I did not know much about the MK107. It turned out that the MK107 is one mean machine winning the hearts of anyone running into this setup based on established reliability and/or just for looks.

Throughout this research I became a little dissapointed that I might not be able to use the SD/Can to the fact of the 7.5 inch short barrel. It is well established that it is not that you can not use suppressors on shorter barrels, but that they will take up to three times the pounding of a 16" barrel with the same amount of rounds fired through it. I have personally talked to a lot of people in a position to know and have been recommended that I do not use the AAC-SD particularly on the MK107 7.62 due to the extreme back pressures and torching that the 7.5 inch barrel and the 7.62 caliber produces.

Having said that, I contacted PWS today for the first time and was told that the MK107 Diablo is pretty much tearing/blowing apart every suppressor that they are putting on the MK107 with about two hundred rounds. I asked him about the SD and he could not say if they had tested it with that one. He also stated that the Delta P "Brevis" was holding up pretty good and somewhat recommended that one. I wish I had known this information prior to ordering.

Ok, now lets get to the grain... I shot 100rds unsuppressed of Wolf with great results. It was very accurate at short distances since I do not have a scope for it yet. But the "noise and the fireballs and the concussion" was driving everyone within distance, away!! Of course I was not going to be there with a Can for that caliber in my possession and not shoot it. I shot 10 rounds through it. So, I am "guilty".

I am not one to get firearms to collect them, I shoot them a lot but not abuse them. I am not really sure if I want to fire anymore than that through this can with this 7.5 Diablo upper. I am thinking about just using this upper without a Can and going up to about a 11.5 or higher in 5.56 with the SD.

There is a lot more that I can add but for now that is it. Oh' btw if you are going to shoot suppress it is recommended that you put a heavier buffer that the stock one. I went with Spike's Tactical ST-T2 Tungsten Heavy Buffer.

To mcharb007: how is your SD holding up with 1000rds? Have you looked at the baffles? If you have have you noticed any visible damaged? I looked in mine and did not like some of the erosion and nicks/scrapes on the baffles with only ten rounds.

Also my first thought was to cut the protruding part of the top rail and will do it if necessary. I am really exited to hear that you have put 1000rds through your SD without any problems. I look foward to hearing from you.

After talking to people that have run the diablo with supressors, it was my understanding that if you wanted to suppress one the model to get is the 7.62x39. I have been told its not as hard on the suppressor as the .223. I know of a couple local guys that run a suppressed mk107 in 7.62x39, one is running the AAC 762SD and the other is running a locally made suppressor(off brand). Both have not had any problems to my knowledge.

As for my 762SD, the can and baffles still look exactly the way they did when I bought the suppressor, well except with more carbon. No errosion that I can spot.

They should make a 300BLK in 7.5

It will hit harder than both 7.62x39 and 5.56 and you can reliably run subsonic and supersonic ammo through it...

Right now they offer one in 9.5, but 7.5 could work too... just make sure to use 1:7 Rifling as it seems to be the new reccomended twist for them.

I handled Dmack's 107 and at first I thought it was little heavy (maybe that huge CQB Comp) but once I shouldered it, it pointed like nothing I've held before. it balanced SO well I was shocked.

I would love a shorty like that.... I'll be going 9.5 with my 300 BLK, but that 7.5 really makes me wish I could shave off 2 inches off it.

I have been in St. Croix for the past week or so training the VIPD. I will add to this upon my return to the mainland. As for suppressors on the 5.56, that's why I went with the Brevis. It runs like a champ from what I have been told. I don't have the suppressor yet, but I will soon.

Has anyone used or looked into using a TBAC 30p-1 / 30BA suppressor w/ the diablo? I've been wanting to pickup the 7.62 model has my AR platform but haven't seen much literature on them.

Update:

Yesterday, I took my MK107 and my MK110 out to do some Chrono work. I used some 55 grain American Eagle .223 (black box), some Lake City M855 62 grain Green Tip 5.56, and some 69 grain Federal Tactical Rifle Urban (TRU) in .223 and shot them side by side. I used my Chrony Chronograph at a distance of 15 feet from muzzle. Here are the results.

MK107 with 55 Grain American Eagle .223

2358, 2401, 2394, 2312, 2383 FPS

MK110 with 55 Grain American Eagle .223

2577, 2751, 2766,2761, 2784 FPS

MK107 with M855 62 Grain Green Tip 5.56

2373, 2397, 2379, 2386, 2314 FPS

MK110 with M855 62 Grain Green Tip 5.56

2808, 2801, 2805, 2803, 2803 FPS (very, very consistent)

MK107 with 69 Grain Federal TRU in .223

1995, 1969, 2001, 1953, 2000 FPS

MK110 with 69 Grain Federal TRU in .223

2418, 2453, 2387, 2394, 2416 FPS


So, as you can see... the MK107 does give up a bit of velocity with the shorter barrel, but I was able to lay down 1/2 inch groups with it at 50 yards, using only a Leupold Prismatic sight... at 100 yards, with the M855 I was able to keep ten round groups in a 3 inch shoot and see with zero issues what so ever.

The MK110 is amazingly accurate. I laid down several 1 inch groups with it with just an ACOG...

55 grain TAP out of the MK107 is supposed to be the cat's meow. I have several hundred of the 60 grain TAP, will be ordering some 55 grain and then start some barrier testing.

The MK107 is a hoot to shoot up close... it's definitely my new favorite Room Broom.

I added the Grip Pod GPS 02 military grade that is helping me keep my shots a lot tighter. I had some feeding issues with Wolf HP which I kind of expected, so I switch to FMJs. I have shot about 300 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever using TulAmmo 122gr fmj.

At 50 yards I was able to keep ½ inch groups whenever I could control my breathing using a Burris Tac-30 1x4 that is turning out to be very accurate with both eyes open (tactical) close shooting and longer range shooting if needed. For $300.00 the Burris Tac-30 1x4 is hard to beat!

I do not intent to shoot the Diablo with the AAC SD since it really negates the purpose of my original intentions to really have a PDW that compares to the standard of the MP5 SD for suppression. Having said that I bought a AAC 300 BLK 9” complete upper and found exactly the right combination of power and sound suppression that I was looking for.

As for the MK107 Diablo 7.62…is is a blast to shoot and you can soot until you get a headache and it will not break your bank!

You just need to dig a little deeper before you copy the link. You're copying the link to the page that has the picture and not the link to the picture it's self... When you click the picture icon to post and then you copy in the link... if it doesn't have ".jpg" or some other picture extension at the end you should go back and "dig" a little more for the right link!

Definitely not the purpose of this thread... but I can't figure out a good way to determine the likelihood of needing the penetration power of the 7.62 in a SHTF scenario... And if there is no barrier of any type am I going to be wasting energy as the bullet just goes thru and thru? (of course all moot if I do my job and hit the CNS...)

If anyone has some good links to discussion of the the two calibers I'd appreciate them (particularly if the people discussing actually understand that 5.56 doesn't equal AR and 7.62 doesn't equal AK and they can focus on the round and not the rifle...) </span>

that being said I WISHHHHHH they would offer this in 300 blackout... the Mk109 is little too long for me (I wanted about 8 inches)

I've done some barrier testing, and for obvious reasons, I can not get into this on an open forum. However, let's just say, the decreased velocity of the 5.56mm through the 7" barrel has surprised me. I would not hesitate using this rifle for what it was designed for.

It runs flawlessly.

I'm waiting on the Brevis suppressor, since that was the original intent of this thread. Feel free to PM me with questions, or observations.
