^^ Seconded!

What also comes to mind is:

- Browning Hi Power.

- Pick your poison on a mid 90's or earlier S&W or Colt revolver. I'm a S&W guy, but Colt makes a nice one too!! Just Colt is typically more $$$.

- Beyond that, I'd have to know your intent/desire for the firearm(s) to better guide me.

Post photos once you get one!!

Re: quality handguns

I concur with the above advice, though I'm also wondering about a couple specifics with your question. Are you interested in having a couple great shooters that you can take to the range and/or carry? Are you looking for a couple new handguns purely for investment? Are you looking for historical handguns?

If you're looking for something you can shoot a lot and that will hold its value, then the I'd go with a custom 1911 of the smith of your choosing and a S&W 41. If you're looking for investment or heirloom style pistols, I'd go with an older Colt 1911 (like WWII or older) that's in great shape. Look around for some nice S&W wheel guns from the pre-WWII period that are in great shape. I love some of the older (but modern) S&W wheelguns (38-44HD, 357 Registered Mag, etc). They seem to always hold value and their interesting in that they demonstrate the progression of handgun tech that's ushered in the age of these monster wheelguns (454 Casull, 460, and 500 S&W).

Pick whatever you're interested in and buy now. They're not getting any cheaper.

Re: quality handguns

I'm looking for home defense Hi Quality handguns:

I would prefer the fallowing :

Reliable
Accurate
ALL steel
Single action
Hi cap
Night sights
low bore axis
dove tail
3.5 LPS trigger
manual safety
fiber optic / night sights
.40 or .45 or even 10mm
Anti- rust / anti scratch coating
Angled grip

------------------------------------------------
low bore axis
"It's the distance between the barrel and your hand. The higher the barrel is above your hand, the more leverage it can exert during recoil. To try out the theory, shoot your gun with your hand as high up on the grip as possible, without the slide contacting the web of your hand. Then grip the gun as low down on the grip as possible while still controlling the gun."

Re: quality handguns

Sounds like a 1911, Hi Pwr, or Sig

1911's -
Rock River Arms (Prev. Gen, not the new polymer)
Pistol Dynamics "combat special evolution" (the one and done principle)
DL Sports
Yo Bo 1911 1*
Springfield TRP for the budget belter

Les Baer
Ed Brown
Nighthawk
Dan Wesson?
Volkmann
Black Ops Precision
SW E series?
Chuck Roger
Ned C.

All depends on how much cash you wanna drop, how patient you are, and what your expectations are as well.

Don't worry about coatings, there are a few guys on the Hide who can take care of your Cerakote or IonBond needs.

Oh, and you ask no Wilson Combat. They are fine, just have experience with their CS years back that left me scorned. Thus, too many other shops to chose from who have been more than kind to me.

Re: quality handguns

It's so easy to fall in love with 1911.

But 1911 will be always around 7-8 rounds magazines.

I'm trying to buy pistols with more that 12 rounds, because we might not be able to buy them soon.

Re: quality handguns

One can hope that std 1911 mags will be around.

STI if your willing to flex on the all steel req. or a Caspian build. Infiniti as well.

SIG for the option it sounds.

Or go Desert Eagle and get it in Chrome, or Gold

Re: quality handguns

I'm going to assume that the OP has settled out the great, FN FAL/SCAR controversy in his mind and has gone on to other considerations of great import?

I would rather die than carry Chrome or Gold gun.

The only reason I sold m Guncrafter Industries .50 GI because it was non reflective chrome.

Re: quality handguns

The force is strong with young michael, start a shit ton of threads on topics that are broad and generic that generate loose discussion in order to mass posts in a non stand out fashion?

Re: quality handguns

My only rule is to only buy guns that are used. I do rotate through guns frequently, I pick something up, use it a bit, and then move it along. If I lose $50 in the process, at least I now know about the gun, it adds to my own knowledge base, and I can help others in the future as I can talk about the given firearm from actual knowledge. My guns really have to have a use. If they do not get shot they get moved. The only exception is a few that are 'special'. I have a pristine HKP7 that is basically LNIB. I shot it a few times and loved it, relegated it to the safe, and bought a second for EDC. Also, my P226 will never get moved since it is the first gun I ever bought. But everything else gets used or moved. Now, my methodology does have a weakness in that I end up with mostly a bunch of modern polymer guns, because, IMHO, they are simply (usually) the best combination of ergonomics, form factor, reliability, accuracy, and ammo capacity. But when I do my monthly cleaning/lubrication of my guns and I am surrounded by a bunch of modern polymer holdings, I think fondly of some of the classics I moved out the door like my HK-91, my Browning High Power, and some others.

So question is, what do you want to collect, shooters that have a role or sentimental and historical classics, or something in between? Here are two lists to sort of define what I mean;

Modern Best of the Best;

- Any Glock
- M&P, fullsize and Shield
- XDM or XDS
- Sig E2
- PPQ or P99 (or both, very different guns)
- Sig 1911 (consider a Fastback)
- Maybe a Boberg
- Kahr compact

Classics:

- HKP7
- Browning High Power
- Colt 1911
- PPK
- Makarov
- Luger
