Rifle Scopes Quality quick detach scope mount

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

If you're looking for a QD mount, then I'd go with Larue. What scope are you looking to get? And for what platform? Do you want a mount with an MOA cant?

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

The pmII 5-25x56. I'm going to use it on either a desert tac srs .338 or Sako Trg 42 but i'd like to be able to swap it to other weapons systems easily to and not have to worry about the torque wrench.
I would probably want a 25 or 30 MOA cant.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

I've just got a LaRue LT104 - very happy with it.

Depending on your budget I'd also have a look at Near Manufacturing, they've got a load of products for the TRG (not sure why you'd need a QD on a TRG as I've never seen one with irons, unless it is just in case your main scope fails?).

Another interesting company I've found recently are Talbot http://www.talbot.us

I've read some good reports on their QD system - although I've not seen or used it myself.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

It sounds like he wants to use it on multiple guns, which while a PITA can be done as long as you keep track of exactly where each gun is zeroed, you would just take it off one gun swap it to another and crank the wind & elev to the proper settings. But my question is do these mounts allow for a repeatable zero? I have heard of the POI changing each time you take it ff and put it back on, or is this only a problem with lesser QD systems? Sorry to hi-jack

I found this review on the Talbot (sorry, not from the Hide but another site).

If you are moving from rifle to rifle the zero and POI will obvioulsy change.

It wasn't clear that this scope would be swapped, I read it that the OP may get one or other rifle, as yet undecided? Apologies if I misinterpreted.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

Well he said he would like to swap it to other "weapons systems" so I guess I took that as moving the scope from one rifle to another and back again. I would like to do he same as it save a bunch in glass. I'm saying that if the mount will retain the zero {and these numbers I am simply making up for demonstration} say 14moa up and 2moa right for a 200yd zero in rifle #1 then take the QD and scope off and move it to rifle #2 which has a zero of 22moa up and 5moa left for 100yds. and then write these zeroes down and be able to take and put the scope on either rifle and with the correct MOA adjustment you'll be back to zero. But all of that is assuming the mount will hold true. Do you see what I mean? sorry to hijack again.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

Repeatability when remounting would be nice but I'm probably going to confirm the zero when switching anyway. How about the GG&G QD mount? They claim 1/2 MOA repeatability when remounting.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

Larue is an excellent option. I have been using their gear for many years now and it is durable, repeatable zero when removing/replacing the scope (although I have never swapped from one rifle to another...just to go from day to NV scopes), and Larue is a company that stands behind their products and knows how to treat customers.

The LT-107 mount has a 30MOA cant and is a BEAST. I used one on a Barrett M95 for a while and it was strong enough to hold up to the recoil from the rifle and still hold true when detached and reattached.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

For QD LaRue is top notch. I use LT 104 mounts on my AR platforms. On an AR these make sense– switching from various sight setups for different activities/conditions is more common on an AR. I've tried their LT 719 rings and although they are beautiful, I just could not see the advantage over traditional P-Rail ring setups like Seekins, MK4, TPS, Badger O., NF, etc. on a precision rifle. No mount is going to perfectly return to zero (RTZ). Any of those listed above will RTZ with in spec. While LaRue does not require a torque wrench, I do not see any advantage with regard to precision rifles, as I always have a torque wrench for my action screws. I've been using a Mountz Ergo Micro Torque Screwdriver Model EMT80* http://www.mountztorque.com/products/torque-screwdrivers/emt. It is adjustable, precise and handy. I use this for both my action screws and the 7/16" nuts on my mounts.

I was experimenting with the same thing that you are trying to achieve and decided to stick with P-Rails and torqued ring setups (mostly, not exclusively). I am now looking at fixed mounts that will let me get a 40-42mm Obj. scope mounted even lower on my handier short barreled rifles.

If you look at LaRue, you might also look at the LT 111, although I only see it listed as a 0MOA cant. I am not sure about the height, but it is setup for 34mm. I also am not sure about the ring spacing. Let us know what you decide.

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

You should be very happy. If you've never had any of the stuff from the dead center of Texas you are in for a treat...

Re: Quality quick detach scope mount

Yep...you can't go wrong with the LT-107!! It is truly an awesome piece of kit. (Not to mention all the "extras" you'll get in the box from Larue)!

Put up some pics when you get your mount and get it up and running!
