Sidearms & Scatterguns Quality small revolver for a woman?

Re: Quality small revolver for a woman?

I would also say a Ruger SP-101 they are a bit heavier than the super light stuff, but they have a perfect grip for small hands & they can actually be shot comfortably for practice.

Re: Quality small revolver for a woman?

I carry a S&W 342 Airlite Ti as a backup gun. It is a very lightweight J frame 38 spl revolver that is absolutely brutal when shooting +P ammunition.
I have considerable experience with handguns of all sorts and have to muster all of my skill to shoot this handgun well. Even with standard pressure loads you wouldn't want to make a day of practice with it.
I think that she would probably be better served with a K frame 3" barrel 38 or even 357, such as the models 13, 64, 65 for duty as a primary means of defending one's self. She wouldn't lose much in concealability, especially if it's being carried in a purse and gain much in shootability.
Grips could be changed to accommodate her preference and the hammer could be bobbed for carry purpose.

+1 on both accounts, I bought site paint for ours - bought two at once.

But also +1 on the S&W 642 Airweight, personally I think I would trust it more as it has less trigger pull and would not be prone to jamming.

I've only stovepiped the LCP once but once is enough.

No worse than "so you bought these bullets and this gun for the sole purpose of killing someone". Neither is true, or particularly convincing if you have a decent attorney.

I have few snub nose S&W's. My wife will shoot everything from a .44 to a 1911 to a Glock. Want to see what she prefers over all others?

An old police trade in Model 10 that was cleaned up just for her. It wears a set of crimson trace grips now.

Re: Quality small revolver for a woman?

I picked up the SW Bodyguard 38, and had an issue with the one I had. SW replaced it on the quick, and to date I have over 500 rounds thru the gun with no problems. I purchased it for my wife with her with me. I asked " are you sure you want a snubby? They kick harder that you are used to..." She wanted it, so we got it. I can tell you it is not her favorite gun to shoot, but she has no issue with it being so lightweight, and packing a punch with +P defensive loads, I too am confident. Not a toy to go shoot a lot, but for training and S/D scenarios, I am glad we have it, and have trust in the weapon itself.

I think the laser sucks, thats why I put on a XS big dot front sight. Shoots good, might be an option as well.

Re: Quality small revolver for a woman?

I picked up a Ruger LCR in .357 at Christmas. I'm extremely happy with it. I've fired both 357 and 38+P in it and it's a great little revolver. I love the trigger on it compared to others. It's very light weight. Goes into a pocket easily. No real need for a holster. I got mine from CDNN for a bit cheaper than most places are selling them.

Re: Quality small revolver for a woman?

My wife totes a S&W 642 airweight in 38 and good god does that thing have a sharp recoil...she is sensitive to recoil and likes it (head scratching) may just be my huge hands. but speaking of the recoil i actually dented my gold ring shooting that gun the other day. we are happy with it, it gets the job done of what it was designed. also for holster designs, take a look at this for her. my wife is going to be trying hers this week when it gets in.

I would not advise that you carry handloads in a CCW, from what I have read on the Internet anyway

Find out what one of the local departments runs around with. You can scarcely look wrong in front of 12 if your precautions are no more "prudent" than theirs.
