quality stripped lowers?

Re: quality stripped lowers?

I have used a bunch of Tactical Innovation Forged lowers without issue . They are your run of the mill 100ish dollar lower that are built very well . Between my buddies and I we have probably built 20+ AR's off of both the forged and billet TI lowers . I have also built several with Rock River lowers and never had a problem with them either .

Re: quality stripped lowers?

A lower is a lower as long as it's machined to spec.

Some offer additional features (i.e., built in trigger guards, ambi bolt/magazine releases, upper tensioning screws, etc.), so if you feel like you need something like that, then go for it.

I would say the lower receiver is one of the least important features in a build (once again, as long as it's machined to spec). You are better off spending money on a trigger or barrrel.

Re: quality stripped lowers?

If your building an M4...a mid range lower is a great way to save some $$$$...

If your concerned with accuracy a high quality lower IS part of the equation...I've used YHM lowers on two DMR/SPR style rifles and gotten excellent results...

HOWEVER...I've been really impressed with Noveske rifles of late...My next built will be with Noveske Gen II "CHAINSAW" uppers and lowers...basically the same extremely high quality components they use in their high end rifles except these are "factory blems" cosmetic blems only...I've seen these for sale for very good prices...competitive with the mid range lowers with installed LPK components...use your GOOGLE FU...

Re: quality stripped lowers?

Find a lower with Keyhole mark on it. That key hole is from a good forging company. There are a few forging companies out there but the key hole is in my opinion the best. The person/company who machines the lower may or may not be who has thier stamp on it so dont get hung up on brand names. Then get good parts kit and your good to go.

Re: quality stripped lowers?

I have built on Megamachine, Lauer, tactics, DPMS, aeroprecision, Alexender Ams (mega), they are all good except for the olympic arms, a few issues with that junk.
hope this helps.

The keyhole mark is Cerro Forge, and this is an interesting opinion.

Most of the folks I've talked to agree with me and say the forge is MUCH less important than who does the final machining. The raw forging is very far from the final product.

These are what the raw forgings look like:

No holes or recesses drilled yet, the machining company is responsible for making a good magwell, pin holes, threads, etc.

Otherwise you could have a great raw blank ruined by some small machine shop that doesn't know what their doing, and end up with poorly sized cuts.

Brand is fairly irrelevant for most AR15s, the market is so over saturated anyone with a crap product that isn't correctly priced doesn't stay around long.

The 4 tiers of AR15 lower receivers readily available are:

Worst - Plastic
Next - Cast aluminum
Next - Forged aluminum
Best - Machined billet aluminum

There is a little bit of titanium sillyness, but that is pretty largely ignored.

Now when I say worst & best, that's in regards to strength and dimensional precision. Plastic receivers are preferred for certain applications, like very lightweight rifles.
