Rifle Scopes Question about 1 piece QD mounts on a bolt gun...

Is there a 1 piece QD mount that anyone trusts enough that you would zero your bolt rifle at your home range, take off your scope with QD mount, show up a PRS type match, put the scope back on and shoot? No zeroing. Taking shots out to 1000+ yards. Trust your life to it kind of thing? Let’s assume we have a high quality rail. Badger or NF. Maybe even a Deviant Elite, Templar V2, or other super high quality action with integral rail. The idea being to remove the rail from the equation as much as possible.

If so, what mount is it?

The only mount with which I have had enough mileage to have that much trust is the Aadmount. Keep in mind that in this case you are trusting a mount/scope combination, not just the mount. For example, My Fix has a Tangent Theta in an Aadmont on it. I would trust that combination, although I would make sure I use a torque wrench.

I do not think I would trust any QD mount I have seen to date.

You can achieve your goals with a one piece SPUHR mount if you put it back in the same slots on the rail and use a torque wrench to tighten it. The bolts are even numbered to show you which order they should be tightened. It doesn’t necessarily have to be QD type to achieve a “return to zero” type function, but it really doesn’t take to long to unscrew and screw four bolts/screws.

Yea the problem with torx head screws is people tend to use the wrong size driver on them because the next size down will seem like the right one and will work until the proper torque is applied. I have installed and removed my SPUHR mounts many times and I haven’t had a problem. I do use a dedicated Seekonk torque wrench calibrated at 45” pounds with the proper driver I believe it’s a T20 or T25 I can’t even remember.....lol

Yes, I have used my DTA mount a lot. I use it for several rifles, carry a torque wrench , and I have the location marked with sharpie you are GTG

Nope. Wouldn't trust any mount to do that. Most will be close but I wouldn't trust to be right on every time. Taking something on and off, especially QD, will cause wear and wear is difference and difference is being off.

Why do you want to use a QD mount? Why the need to take the scope off?

I'm using the right bit. It starts round after about 4 or 5 removals. I'm hoping it's a bit quality issue. I'm going to try Wiha and see if makes a difference.

It is definitely a bit issue a friend of mine had the same problem he was using cheap bits and it caused the screws to get rounded off SPUHR sent him new screws....This is the set I use from Milwaukee they are impact ready ( not that you would… LOL) but they can be had at any Home Depot or Northern Tool

Yes, the Wiha are fabulous. I have a Wiha T15 screwdriver that I use for quick on and off when setting up. I also have a Wiha torque driver that is a screwdriver type that does 10-50 in lbs. Love it. I also have a bag of Wiha bits that I change regularly to prevent damage from worn bits.
