Ok, I always hear people say their rifle groups great at closer range but groups turn bad at longer ranges.

The question is, is it possible to group .5 moa at 100 and then group 3 or moa at 600 or group good @ 10 yds and horrible at 25 with pistol, considering te rd stays supersonic and it is shot from a ransom rest.
This is just an example.

The answer is absolutely possible. There are two possible reasons. One being the monkey behind the trigger, the other being the load. There are funny loads where it is sub MOA at 100 yards, during your load development. When you stretch that same load out to 300 yards and beyond, then it completely opens up. Also, it's possible to have a decent goup at 100 yards then the groupings become subMOA at longer distances. This is a reflection of the stability of the projos you are shooting.

The other reason, of course is the shooter. When you go beyond 500 yards, things get magnified. Any deviation from the basic fundamentals will compound your error. Also, the MET and ENV factors also come into play and can contribute to a larger group. Hope that helps.

Lol thanks!

Re: Question about accuracy.

A recent thread on another forum had a poster pissing his pants over folks saying their gun shot X MOA at some specific distance (50 or 100 yd, usually.
His contention was that specifying distance was unnecessary, redundant, even, since the angular fraction should be constant until the maximum range of the load was reached.
I contended he was FOS.
