I know that a 5.56 chamber can shoot both 5.56 and .223. I know that a .223 chamber can't fire a 5.56 round because of the throating and pressures.

So here is the question.....

Can a "Wylde Chamber" shoot both types of rounds?

Thanx, Wes

Alot of info about .223/5.56 chambers can be found here:

That is some damn goon information there. I copied it it over to a PDF so I could save it as a reference sheet.

In my experience, I don't think the Wylde chamber will handle 5.56 just fine. I've re-barreled at least a dozen or so guns with barrels chambered with the "Wylde" chamber, and find that velocity is, on average, about 100 fps higher with M855 than said ammunition shot from a reference 5.56 chambered barrel yielding published velocity. This suggests some pretty high pressure. The sort you'd get shooting 5.56 from a .223 chamber. Considering folks may hand load for the Wylde chamber to get the kind of results needed of their ammunition, the chamber's design may be moot. Nevertheless, shooting a steady diet of M855 from a Wylde chambered barrel, I think, would not be wise.
