question about Geissele SSA

The pull weight on my ssa is a little heavy for my liking. If it could be lightened up a little it would be the perfect trigger for me.

Are the SSA and the SSAE identical triggers except for the springs? If so can I get the SSAE springs and put them in the SSA making it a SSAE trigger?

Re: question about Geissele SSA

Nobody I know of is selling just the springs for the SSA-E. If your SSA is actually pulling heavier than the 2.5lb 1st stage, 2lbs second stage spec, then send it to Geissele and they will repair it. I've heard nothing but good comments about their customer service and quick turnaround.

If 4.5lbs is just too heavy for your liking, you'll probably have to take the hit and buy the SSA-E or fully step up to one of the adjustable triggers and tune it yourself. Only good thing would be there are a lot of people that will be willing to pay near retail for even a used SSA.

Re: question about Geissele SSA

At a difference of $30, I doubt the only difference is springs. There is a report on AR15.com about someone using JP springs in their SSA. Might lose a bit of reliability by going that route, but it's cheap.

Re: question about Geissele SSA

You can reduce the 1st stage pull weight (and by extension the overall weight) by bending the return spring legs upward, this is what Giessle recco's to adjust first stage pull weight on their adjustable trigger.

You can usually lose 1/2-3/4 pound this way. Just go a little at a time and check for proper trigger return and function check as you go.

Don't mess with the hammer spring.

That's my recent experience too. I haven't measured mine, but I have a very hard time believing it is only @4.5lbs. The first stage is very stiff, almost as much as a stock trigger with JP springs and I think that is exacerbated by the position and angle they chose for the SSA's shoe vs the NM. I also have a stock trigger with TTI springs too and the SSA is about the same heaviness. It's in a DPMS lower so I'm assuming therefore the geometry is correct and not applying the springs to undue loading.

Dry-firing on my finger I think much lighter springs can be used without making it unreliable. That little thing stings.

Re: question about Geissele SSA

The last two service rifle triggers I installed would lift 4 lbs on the first stage weight alone.

Find his instructions and bend the legs of the trigger spring to reduce the weight per the instructions. No need to send it back.

You can follow the first stage adjustment instructions - I put them up for others to read here:

Thanks much.

It is not cool when your wife throws everything away not hers or made of gold, and the manufacturer can't get anything but a landing page as their site. Maybe you should email it to them too so they can link it for download. Oh wait, they don't even have a posted email address. I didn't know about the SSA shoe position difference before buying it either because vendors rely on manufacturers to represent their product's specs because they are subject to change. It's not OK in 2010 to have their site, err claim for a future site, flag planted or whatever they want to call it. If Allen Goel Marketing told them it was gonna be expensive to disable their online shopping so the only option was to remove the whole site, then they should solicit a volunteer (like say me) to fix it in exchange for a trigger or two and free themselves of such thievery.
