From 2000 to 2004 I had an FFL01, but grew tired of dealing with the paperwork, so I let it expire. At that time all handguns had to be shipped via overnight delivery.

Do handguns still have to ship overnight delivery via UPS to an FFL?

I was under the understanding that hand guns and long guns could be shipped from individual to ffl! You didn't have to have an ffl to ship, but an ffl has to receive it! Are you sure that's not just a NY law?

overnight shipping is not law. It is policy of UPS and Fedex. USPS will not take handguns except from FFL (unless something changed). I've had several handguns shipped to my FFL from another FFL that were not shipped overnight. I don't know if FEDEX/UPS have an exception for FFL's or if they just didn't tell them what was in it.

MHO its just U.P.S and FED EX way of making extra money from us,what other reason would there be,unless they are afraid some of there employees would steal a handgun.....

Back many years ago, when I was playing like a gunsmith, two UPS drivers brought in a 9mm auto that had gone off out of battery. Blew the grips off. Busted the grips.
They had "borrowed" the gun instead of delivering it.
The drivers were in quite a tizzy about getting the gun repaired so they could deliver it.

IF you ship via UPS, their regulations require UPS Next Day Air, in one of it's several guises.
You may also choose to use FedEx, shipping to a Licensee & accepting return from them.
If LEO, etc., you can also use USPS.

UPS; http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/guidelines/firearms.html
FedEx; http://www.fedex.com/us/service-guide/terms/express-ground/

Personal experience has been "complicated" for me, when using FedEx. Just logistical difficulties. So far, I've had great luck with UPS and Postal deliveries. Your experiences may be different, as I only ship once or twice a year, both rifles and handguns.
